I believe this is the logo of Saint George Sports Club of the Ethiopian Premier League. My great uncles used to watch them when Italy invaded Ethiopia after WW2 and settled there. Former Sampdoria player , who was also on Italy’s 1982 WC winning roster, Beppe Dossena used to coach them.
Cool that Thiago Messi is playing for Inter Miami’s U-12 team. Looking back 4 years ago, time goes by very fast and before you know it, Thiago will be 16 or 17 which will be the age for him to go pro. I wonder if he will be a fraction of the player his dad is or was? It’s never easy for a son to follow in a famous players footsteps. I recently read one of David Beckham’s kids just retired from soccer to become a model so he probably saw the writing on the wall and realized that he was never going to be a great player. I also saw that Francesco Totti’s son, Christian, at 18-19 made his debut for Serie D side in Italy. The Italian press has been highly critical of him saying he moves and looks like a meatball. Sad that he has to go through that. Nonetheless, here is hoping Thiago makes it!
Guys like Totti’s kid should come to MLS, or more likely the USL, just to avoid that crap. There was a spell about 12 years ago where MLS brought in Rooney’s brother, and someone else’s brother, and some guy named Johnson who had been highly touted at I think ManU but didn’t pan out…point being, America is a good place to play if you’re a Messi, but it’s also a healthy environment for Messi Jr. Give your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to just play soccer without all the tabloid bullshit….
Exactly! Totti stated in an interview that if his son can’t make the grade, he should give it up. What I think many former player’s , especially those who settle in the US and Canada should pressure their kids into getting an education and/or playing at a D1 , NCAA school. Maybe the soccer won’t be as good as a third or fourth division but the facilities at most top universities across the USA anyway , are top notch and better than most pro teams I've seen across Europe. A guy I recently spoke to played for Roma’s youth teams and then played for the Cal Bears. He said no one e in Italy anyway, had fields , weight rooms and athletic equipment like our colleges have. He ended up playing 4 years and got a degree. Heck even our junior colleges have great fields. Until a year ago or so, Alex Delpiero’s kids were also living in LA playing youth ball as he owns a restaurant called N10. I know their fathers on the one hand would like them to succeed as pros but on the other, it’s not always in the cards and they should face reality.
Feel like they could have quietly updated it and no one would have noticed...pretty subtle changes, not sure why they're announcing it now and not in the offseason: New York City FC Unveil Updated Club Badge | New York City FC
