The French, er Freedom, sports paper L'Equipe is reporting that Roumanian striker Viorel Moldovan currently of FC Nantes is considering a move to the United States at the end of the season. Moldovan, 30, has been a regular starter with his national team, and scored 20 goals in three seasons with Nantes, including 11 in their championship-winning year of 2000/2001. Unfortunately, injuries have hampered his production over the last two campaigns. Before coming to Nantes he had plied his trade at Coventry City and Fenerbahce.

If he is back to 100% form, this guy would be a tremendous addition to MLS. He has a solid international pedigree and is a classic goal poacher in the mold (pun somewhat lamely intended) of Hakan Sukur.

Word is that he considers MLS's offer the most credible so far, saying that if Nantes will not re-sign him (which they clearly indicate will be the case), he will be looking for a new adventure.

I'm not sure how his allocation would work if he moves in mid-summer. Has anybody heard anything about this story?
