FC Dallas have loaned former US U20 player Moises Hernandez to Comunicaciones for the 2012-13 season. http://www.camerinocrema.com/portal/modules/noticias/item.php?itemid=2624 Jeff Cunningham spent some time with the club last season.
I think that getting a loan to a team in Central America or Mexico could be a good move for any player who speaks Spanish and is at the lower end of the MLS pay scale. Those low wages would go much further than in most NASL or USL markets. And having young players accustomed to playing on Latin American fields could potentially help the NT in the future.
I do wonder whether Moises has any future with FCD. He's been there two years and has never made a first team appearance (outside of friendlies.) He apparently fell behind Alex Lee in the fullback pecking order (based on gameday roster appearances), and he was a supplemental draft pick. So is this a loan to give the kid some experience.............or is this a first step towards Moises' departure from the club? I have no idea. What I can tell you is that FCD has a couple of other homegrown signing possibilities at fullback. There's London Woodberry, who's at Maryland right now. And also former Bradenton product Kellen Acosta, who's ranked by many as the best 2013 prospect in the country. And Moises is Guatemalan. I have no idea if he's still eligible for a one-time switch to Guatemala. But it's possible. He hasn't turned 21 yet.
He's played for the first team in USOC play http://www.bigdsoccer.com/2012/5/30/3052159/fc-dallas-falls-in-usoc-game, and I thought he actually looked pretty good. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten more of a look to be honest, but it's definitely hard to tell if he has any sort of future w/ Dallas.
The age issue isn't part of the rules anymore. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=652502&sec=global&cc=5901
Glad to see this move, hope more MLS teams can do this sort of loan to get young players time on the field.
The game people always talk about with regards to Moises was the friendly against Inter Milan. He held his own against some very good competition that day. I thought when FCD dumped Jeremy Hall during the off-season that Moises had moved up the depth chart. But no...............
Given that two guys from our last U20 team have been playing in the Gran Liga de Oxnard, Guatemala isn't bad.
Article on Hernandez. It mentions that the Guatemalan league has a limit of 4 foreign players on a team and that Comunicaciones are searching for other Guatemalan-Americans that wouldn't count toward that limit.
http://www.saprissa.cr/noticias.php?idNoticia=162 Looks like FCD's Hernandez will be trading Comunicaciones for Saprissa in an upcoming loan.
Nice. This ought to be something to keep an eye on. Dream scenario: he sees significant PT and next year at this time he's unseated Jair Benitez as the starting LB for FCD. Hyndman gave up on Leyva and Luna, but perhaps there's hope for Hernandez.
This is definitely a step up from Guatemala. Saprissa is no slouch and I assume it's going to be a challenge to get PT. That's not a bad thing at all. Challenges are good for youngsters. I really like the fact FCD have been willing to loan him out instead of rot away on the bench. Benitez is pretty darm solid but he's about to turn 34. One would have to figure Moises can edge him out in a year.
I should have mentioned that Saprissa's new manager is Ronald Gonzalez who moved over from Comunicaciones. That bodes well for Moises. It's nice to see Moises made eanough of an impression that Gonzalez was willing to bring him over to Costa Rica.
A recent Big D Soccer column about Moises' loan experiences in Central America: http://www.bigdsoccer.com/2013/1/10...ing-the-most-of-his-chance-in-central-america
American Exports: FC Dallas loanee debuts in Costa Rica There were press reports that Guatemala were interested in calling up the Dallas native to the recent Copa Centroamericana, but Hernandez says it was an impossibility due to the fact he doesn't have a Guatemalan passport.
Nice try. "Normally a left back, Hernandez (above) debuted in Saprissa’s 2-1 comeback victory against Uruguay on Sunday in the unfamiliar position of center back."
