    I'm not sure what policies you are talking about, but I also think you'd be surprised at the (internal) conflict many posters have, as well as the adjusting views that occur when data appears. For example, the general consensus has been pro-legalization of drugs. But we now have data from Oregon (and Portland in specific) that broad legalization does not necessarily work. While there has not been deep discussion on this, there has been some discussion, and it is causing our views to adjust.

    I think you grossly mis-estimate this.

    To be clear, I agree with this point, and I am not arguing that Sounders (or anybody else) gets to be an asshole for any particular reason or on any particular subject.

    The apology should be to everybody who is offended, which includes lurkers, not just Sounders.

    I’m glad you agree with that in principle, but in practice, it’s clear he has special dispensation to be an asshole to anyone who disagrees with him. The quality of discussion in that forum is scraping the bottom of the barrel as it is, but somehow he manages to take it a little lower by crapping all over every thread with “Nazi this” and “Orange Hitler” that. He also just shit all over DK when DK made a pretty gentle attempt to tell him to quit directing profanity-laced tirades at fellow posters. You can’t possibly think that any of this makes for good discussion.

    Anyway, I’ll gladly apologize to him and anyone else who wants an apology if he apologizes to me and the other posters (none of whom are actual Nazis, as if that really needs to be said) who he’s smeared as Nazis. Until then, he should realize that if you fling shit at other people, they’re going to fling shit right back.

    And again, a reminder that I was banned for some childish name-calling that’s about 98% milder than anything said in the post I’ve linked. But of course, because I disagreed with the hivemind and touched a nerve with the board’s most fragile poster, I got banned. Meanwhile, mocking Chinese accents and high-fiving about it is totally cool.

    Not really. It is just that you want standards to apply to others, but not atone for your own behaviors. Thus, responding to any or all of your complaints is moot at this point.

    Are those guys atoning for mocking Chinese accents? Didn’t think so. Did sounders78 atone for his 8 million unhinged rants, or did he just get a pass because he’s got poor emotional regulation and belongs to one of your pet demographics?
