Sakiewicz to lead push for Philly team Sort of a direct shout-out "These fans are coming at us," Sakiewicz said. "I was in downtown Philadelphia watching the U.S.-Mexico match with 200 soccer fans at a pub in downtown Philadelphia. The fans were so excited about soccer. They'll come right at us. The passion is there. The excitement is there. It's pretty energizing for me. What starts out as a dream now has a realistic chance of happening. It's pretty incredible for me." http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20080208&content_id=138288&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp
Re: Sakiewicz to lead push for Philly team Nice find Chris. 200 is over-estimating a bit, though they opened a second bar for us, most of the crowd was all in the one room
Re: Sakiewicz to lead push for Philly team Eh, 210, 220..Whatever gets the job done! We sounded like 200 people though...
Re: Sakiewicz to lead push for Philly team FC Pennsylvania LLC, huh? it's even got its own (threatened to be deleted) wikipedia entry.
Re: Sakiewicz to lead push for Philly team Just saw this on mlsnet this afternoon. good stuff, sorry I wasn't there...But I'm ready to throw down my $50 deposit toward a season ticket!
Re: Sakiewicz to lead push for Philly team I heard it was like 300 . Slight estimating stats are good for talks.
Re: Sakiewicz to lead push for Philly team Philly Playoff Fever! Will the SoB's be wearing baby blue bowlers?
A few excerpts of mlsnet's report on Sakiewicz: FC Pennsylvania LLC, the group trying to lure the 16th Major League Soccer club to Chester, Pa., added a huge piece to its puzzle with the hiring of Nick Sakiewicz as CEO and operating partner. "It's such a great group of people to be associated with," Sakiewicz said. "We'll start pulling the stadium project together in the next 3-6 months. Hopefully, we can start construction in the fall and begin to build and formalize our front office operation." "These fans are coming at us," Sakiewicz said. It's pretty incredible for me."
There is no such thing as a casual news item on MLSNET.COM. It is the league's propaganda machine, the Pravda of soccer if you like. This is just to warm us up.
And before everybody jumps out the window about FC Pennsylvania, be advised that that was the name the group picked when beginning lobbying efforts in Feb. 2007. It was never intended to be the name of the team.
Looks like no team for 2009: http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20080208&content_id=138306&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp I posted a thread in the main expansion forum. Best of luck to you guys though, I really hope Philly gets the next one. Now you can take a little breather and regroup to make the push for 2010.
Oh, I'm not so sure... http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20070914&content_id=117119&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp
My point exactly. What makes you think the St. Louis story is casual? I think the league wants to make a dual announcement, and why not just extend the same courtesy to Cooper that they extended to Philly? The whole "expansion competition" thing was to generate buzz. A classic case of Negadelphia. Maybe you should move out here.
That is pretty awesome that Bryan is now officially on MLSnet.com! Might he be the first ever supporters group president to be featured on the league's official website in a video interview?
Re: Sakiewicz to lead push for Philly team Seems like the perfect guy to round out your ownership group which already very strong. Great business savvy and a true soccer guy. Very much like Joe Roth is. Looks like all the pieces are in place. Stadium funding and solid ownership group with vision. Come on Philly! Have a great weekend all!
It's kind of silly how the league is handling this--delaying indications of their intentions despite massive bid progress--but I suppose it's partly to stir interest amongst the common folks.
Isnt the #1 goal in adveritising to get people talking about your product? Considering we (SoB's/Owners) are "advertising" how we will benefit the league, I think nothing but good can come out of this press - especially the MLSNet news!
Ahhhh...The wise Elder speaks.....I just woke up my kids and said "we have a name!!!!!" thanks for setting us straight..I will learn to contain my enthusiasm and read more of the thread before drawing any conclusions. While it isn't the best name, FC Pennsylvania wouldn't suck. Kind of encompasses the project that made it happen, gives a shoutout to Rendell and Co. and it WILL (most likely) be the only team in PA (at least for a looooooong time).
