    Hey everyone, with the permission of American Soccer gaming God Dan R, the North Boys, Canada's Alternative Soccer Supporters have done a complete update of the classic game and supreme procrastination tool Major League Soccer Manager (and just in time for exams!).

    Full updates for teams, players and photos and updated free agents in the game.

    This means, yes, you can lead your beloved team to glory, bury your rivals into oblivion with aging a-league rejects, and yes, even sabotage the career of Freddy Adu.

    Want to download this fantastic amazing piece of supreme amazingness?

    http://www.freewebs.com/northboys/

    The "games" link on the side bar is the link to the page you can download it from

    It will be updated whenever a transaction occurs in the MLS, so check up a couple days later at this page and you can get the update.

    Note: No ads or anything on the page, we arent making money trying to bring you in off of big soccer, completely freeware greatness.

    Oh, PS.. we've just noticed our server was being a bit of a dink, limiting our bandwidth.. that issue should be fixed now :)

    Two comments:

    1) Why do I get the feeling that all the Canadian players are overrated?

    2) Game works fine, as long as I don't try to sign Christian Chivu... but the moment I do, it crashes. I can still reload the game, but every time I try to click on Chivu's name it crashes again. This happened in three different saved games (the last two of them were started in order to test the bug), and didn't happen in the one in which I didn't try to sign Chivu. Very odd... especially considering I used to hack the game myself to try and keep rosters updated, and I can't think of anything that would cause it.

    Thanks for this. I'll give it a go after I get back from work tonight.

    Sounds like Christmas has come early. :)

    Canadians

    The North Boys took up the ratings among themselves. This, inevitably, led to some disgreements, quarrels, fistfights and a minor castration attempt in the ensuing discussion regarding some of the Canadians.

    In the end we decided to keep them where they are because:

    1) Canada's top players tend to be very under-rated in real-life terms;
    2a) the Canadians we included could do a more than adequate job in the MLS;
    2b) No Canadian is a superstar in the game;
    3) In regards to the world superstars, the majority of Americans in the game are over-rated as well;
    4) Many of the MLS players were, in our opinion, over-rated in the earlier versions of the game, leaving us with the decision to either shore up the ratings for fringe players or universally bring everyone down a notch, which conflicts with...
    5) Our desire to make the game harder - a flaw of the old game was the ability to dominate with (or be dominated by) a team consisting of two/three/four top international superstars (who would never ever sign for the MLS in anyone's wildest dreams in the first place) and a remaining squad of crap domestic players...boosting ratings eliminates this, to an extent.
    6) and we're Canadian and we did the update so nananana poopoo. :p

    But we appreciate the feedback, keep it coming. And hint: buy Iain Hume he ruins the league by year four. ;)

    some more

    And just to qualify that a little bit...

    Take for instance, Jason Bent...one might say he is over-rated seeing as he plays English Div Two - yet we can't forget that if it weren't for passport restrictions, the guy would have signed top flight in Holland or Portugal, or, more recently, be with Preston North End (Div 1).

    Another good example is defender Jason de Vos, who, if it weren't for his international commitments, would be on a much better team by now (would have probably taken part in West Brom's Premiership season.)

    Iain Hume is an up-and-coming player who Canadians have always known is special, and justified it with a massive impression at the World Youth Cup just last month.

    The positions of Stalteri (Werder Bremen), Radzinski (Everton), and deGuzman (Hanover), in regards to their club situations speak for themselves. I can't think of others in the game at this moment - this North Boy hasn't gotten to the point of playing games at work just yet, but may soon do if he feels dangerous or stealthy...

    Anyway, Back to the point...

    Admittedly, the ifs, ands, and buts of any player and their situation can be called into play for any nationality.

    However, the ratings Canadians received are not without merit. Bent is nothing more than a decent MLSer, something which he more or less was during his time in the league. Klukowski is an up and coming, and is rated no better than American counterpart Zak Whitbread. Lars Hirschfeld is a third string keeper at Tottenham, and is rated as such, being a middle-of-the-road player in the game if signed. Brennan plays with Norwich, and is rated above, but not lightyears above MLS average, which he is indeed. The ratings are reasonable/fair.

    Additionally, if some do feel the Canadians are over-rated, the same can be said for the majority of American players.
