I finally got to play it last evening. After reading all kinds of rave reviews from people saying it is so much better than the EA Sports series, i'm really confused. If it is based on the same gameplay engine that the other konami games are based on (WE and PES) it doesn't seem that much better. Maybe more so that the older fifa games, but definitely not 2003. Still not a bad game though, but it wasn't that much fun to play, the only good things were that it had the MLS stadiums so that made it cool. Well that's my little rant

FIFA is awful, MLS Extratime 2002 is clearly better.

MLS Extratime is one of the worst soccer videogames I've ever played.

I guess if you compare the extratime game versus older versions of fifa then yes fifa sucks. But if you are comparing FIFA 2003 to extratime 2002, i'd have to say it seems that EA has learned and adjusted a lot of things. I can see where they got a lot of the ideas for this newest installment. the thing about fifa is, your players make runs in the konami games they kinda just stood there and the camera angles where so annoying. Still not an awful game, but fifa's engine for this year was much better.

I guess I have to wait and see the new Konami products when they come out since fifa had a whole year to revamp its game.

MLS extra time has far better and more realistic A.I. it plays more like real soccer. Also, the ball physics are much better in MLS extra time. FIFA 2003 is still a joke. You tap the ball and it is a rocket from 80 feet out. Luckily most of Europe understands this and FIFA 2003 is getting panned all over the videogame message boards while PES 2 is considered the best football sim out there.

    it doesn't matter

an old Konami is STILL superior then the newest FIFA. Wake up. Ted has it right, listen and learn FIFA players.

I believe a more effective way is:

    Umm...NO. Ohhhh, I am sorry.

sorry for what? You are playing a crap game (FIFA). I still can't believe people buy that load of garbage. Thanks for buying FIFA though, it'll be great to see another low quality release from EA next year. It's OK though, I realize Konami's titles are beyond your scope.

And thanks to Konami for once again releasing the greatest soccer game, available in March 2003.

Why does it always look like Ramallah around here? "FIFA!" "No, God says that MLS is the only TRUE GAME!"
Get over it, they're video games, people have their preferences, don't come knocking on someone's door all Jehovah's Witness style trying to make them switch.

They may "only be videogames," but it's nice when you know you're playing a great simulation soccer game compared to a more arcadey game.

I have gotten fifa since 96 and i have got every MLS Extratime also...even Gamenight...

    The games aren't even comparable...

Extratime is the obvious better soccer game is you are a soccer fan and like real soccer..

Fifa sucks everyyear except I had a lot of fun with world cup 98 even though i scored about 20 goals a game on the hardest setting...its unrealistic, the main reason i get it is cuz it has a lot more teams to choose from and always comes/came out before extratime and it would hold me over til the "real" soccer game came out...

me and my friend have played eachother a million times in each...on Fifa we get scores like 11-10, etc...on extratime we usually are around 3-2, 4-3, but also a lot of times we get 1-0 or even have a bunch of 0-0 draws...real soccer, its a lot more exciting, our favorite game we've ever played, we still talk about it and its 2 years ago, it was like our 50th or so game and he hadn't beat me ever yet, many draws but i still never had been beaten (i'm of course talking about extratime, cuz fifa is unrealistic and not fun) and hes up 1-0 and we get into stoppage time at the end of the match and i get the equalizer, he was so pissed and in the last minute of the 2nd OT i got the golden goal....

FIFA - High Scoring, unrealistic soccer, if you like that then FIFA is better for you

Extratime - If your a true soccer fan and like real soccer, this is the game for you...the keepers should still be a little better and not give up as many rebounds but its still the best game around...

here is the deal - for some people it takes a while to get used to MLS extra time because the controls are weird since it is only 8 directional.

however, after you get that down you realise that the goals aren't arbitrary like in FIFA 2003. You actually earn the goals thru build up and passing. Plus you can dummy the ball in MLS extra time, something you can't do in FIFA 2003, at least not that I've been able to figure out yet. FIFA 2003 improved leaps and bounds but the realism just sin't where MLS extra time is yet. And Pro Evolution SOccer 2 takes it up yet another notch. On pro evolution soccer, the player can fall down in any number of ways when he is fouled, it really adds to the realism. Plus the 1-2 passes are even crisper in PES2 than MLS extra time, if you can believe it, and PES2 moves slightly faster and the defensive AI is even better.

So the way I see it is that Pro Evolution Soccer 2 is near perfcet, MLS extra time is near perfect for MLS fans, FIFA 2003 is fun and entertaining but not as realistic as the Konami games.

What is so great about a game based on one league? FIFA has teams from all over the world in it.

whats so great is the game play is realistic and plays like real soccer...Fifa has all the teams, great, also everytime i play on the hardest setting i can score 10-20 goals no problem...

Extratime you actually have to work and work like a real soccer team to score...

Yes, FIFA's crap. Everyone with half a brain knows it. But since MLS Extratime took the "lite" route with clubs, and isn't available for the PS2 anyway, and WE6 and WTS won't be out until March, FIFA is all there is for PS2 gamers.

I'm sure when WE6 comes out, no one here (including myself) will be wasting time talking about FIFA anymore. It's just a diversion until the real game gets here.

    1) I wouldn't say FIFA 2003 is complete crap, it is pretty good, the passing is way better this year, I just don't like the shooting system.

    2) MLS extra time 2002 has plenty of teams from Mexico and South America...it has Boca Jr's, River Plate, Cruz Azul and several others...it's just that the names of the players are 1 letter off...and thier jerseys all say KONAMI on them. Plus there is 4 slots to make your own teams, I made Arsenal-Bayern Munich-Celtic and Miami Fusion 2001. The kit maker is great so my 4 "custom" teams look like they do in real life, it's awesome. You can also edit the South American clubs and make them whatever you want.

    3) My only problem with wINNINg eleven/pro evolution soccer is that the Master League isn't real. I would rather have a Winning Eleven based on one league.

    4) As everyone has already said, it would be better is KONAMI made a soccer game, then let FIFA design the graphics and make the options.
