Much better effort this week.. The highlights guy still botches the names though.. Seriously, how hard is it to pronounce Magee? I didn't know New York Knick Hall of Famer and political legend Bill Bradley coached the Metrostars.. Who knew? Again, this show will be truly awesome in a couple of weeks... Just get that highlights donkey to get the names right..
I think Harkes does a very good job on this show. he his head and shoulders above Wynalda as a commentator and personality. Paul Caligiuri, who did the color commentary Saturday for the DC/Chi game, is absolutely the worst I've ever seen. A constant stream of inane gibberish. My son and I were laughing out loud at his commentary.
Huh? You really think so? They finished showing highlights with TWENTY minutes remaining in the show, and what did they go to? A John Harkes tribute! Holy crap, is that all they could come up with? Really, this show only needs to be 30 minutes long if they are going to present it in the format it is in right now. There is very little analysis or tactical discussion and a whole lotta time wasting. Sure, a couple of things were better from last week, but getting names spelled correctly or positions listed right, is the least we can expect. They are biting off more than they can chew trying to fill an hour. peet
I think they have a lot more chances at improving the show. I do enjoy the show though. Here is what I just resent to them (It is still undeliverable because their mailbox was full. I will keep trying though.) I think you need to add a bad call of the week or to illustrate some bad calls by referees. The Joe Max Moore item was a good start but I think you should also show items that the Refs miss. There is way too little pressure on poor refeering in MLS. Refs need to learn from mistakes and get their dirty laundry aired so they actually work on correcting it. That is the only way they will improve. As an example the April 19th San Jose game the Earthquakes were slighted by a fake injury by the KC wizards in the 2nd overtime that resulted in no extra time being added to the end of overtime. The player sat on the ground for almost 30 seconds before play was resumed and 0 seconds were added to play. Maybe you could also crop together a group of tackles/collisions and Call it the "Pounding of the week" In other-words show us a few of the rougher and not quite so rosy parts of the game. Thanks for the great effort! Randy Overbeck CQ Member and Secretary
Really? Wow. I think Harkes is rather mannequin-esque. There were some times I wasn't sure if it was him or a cardboard cutout with pre-recorded comments being played. But don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled the show exists at all, though it does seem to be about a 30 minute show stretched into an hour.
Jeez,people.Chill. "Ticket to Asia" sucked at first but they had a pretty smooth show going towards the end and I was kinda sad when they finished it up because I liked the format(I really dug the condensed game with their featured player)Once they start getting some interviews and some guest appearances into a regular time slot they will have a much more professional show.Sean Wheelock and John Harkes are a pretty knowledgeable set of anchors and all they need is some time. What MLS highlight show are they supposed to mimic? The one Rob Stone hosted(MLS Extratime?)sucked. It had more bells and whistles but it still sucked. They're breaking new ground and it still isn't good enough.
Come on guys, we need to call in with our questions and email our comments. Those guys were suffering in the last 15 minutes and they needed our help! and we didn't come through!!! We need to work on this interactive format!!! Thought the show was better than first week, but not by a lot.
Yup, Wheelock thought they were done with 10 minutes to go. If they're serious at FSW about being affiliated with BigSoccer then maybe they should just set up a thread on the FSW board asking for questions. Then they can choose the best ones. Anyway, I think the studio is right nearby my place here. Maybe they should have me on to do guest commentary.
Here is my constructive criticism: The only highlights shown are the goals, and almost goals--the same ones you see on the game recaps during telecasts. What I was hoping to see is something closer to what they do for the Argentine highlights show--a good, solid 8-10 minutes of game clips that allow you to really get a feel for the game. For example, instead of showing the last 6 seconds of a goal strike from 4 different angles, it would be nice to see how that play developed from midfield. Also, good or interesting play does not always end in a goal scoring opportunity. It would be nice for example, for them to demonstrate how well Ricardo Clark has looked in midfield, showing his poise and skill in selected clips, but since they haven't really ended in goals, his play is non-existent for an MLS Wrap viewer.
I think that they could do that if it was on Sunday nights instead. They're a bit underequipt at FSW compared to ESPN and even their FSN partners. Those 8-10 minute clips sure would help kill an hour of programming(Which seemed what they REALLY needed last night)I can't wait until the day that there is an alternative show to choose from.Competition only makes you better. PEACE
I do think the show would be better if it didn't come on so soon after the games finish. That may not be possible, I don't know, but they have so little time to put together each show it seems there's little room for improvement.
I agree with this, but ultimately it will be the producer's job to get it right. The more experience with the show he/she has, the better it should be.
This made me think of two ideas, The first, it's probably too late for this year, since we're coming up on week 3. But they could do a "New Player of the Week" feature. Or do two players, one for each team, for 5 weeks. Wouldn't you enjoy a 5 minute segment on Bo? The other, is just a player of the week feature. But they should focus on players whose circumstances have changed. 5 minutes on Eddie Pope this week, Wolff next week. After that, maybe talk to Santino about his new baby. It's a good timekiller.
They could use better time management. I can't believe that they didn't have time to show the Bocanegra, Convey, Eskandrian (sp?) collision. You have the future US back-line anchor sending the #1 draft pick and another future US regular tumbling on one of the most massive collisions in MLS history, with the #1 draft pick suffering from mild amnesia and it's not on the highlight show??
Unfortunately, I think "Harkesy" uses the word "unfortunately" way too much. I cringed everytime he started a sentence with "unfortunately." Regarding their choices for "goal of the week," I thought they left out one of the better ones: the Donovan-to-Mullan through pass leading to the game-tying goal. It may have been left out due to the game ending during the show. Other than those points, the show was enjoyable.
I would suggest you guys moving this thread to the Fox Sports World sub forum on the Business and Media forum, where they are most likely monitoring. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=688 Andy
I went to the FoxSportsWorld.com cite and tried to email them a question and the link doesn't work. I tried another link for MLS@fsw.com and it didn't work either. I emailed them at another more neutral FSW link and let them know they had a problem. Hopefully they'll fix it.
