Feel free to change this if you'd rather have a dedicated thread for the final matchday. I just wanted to have a forum to scoff at Kansas City for losing to Central in the CCL at halftime.

Well, I decided not to go, so of course they have the lead.

This thread stinks when CT is listed.

CT is objectively the best time zone to live in as a soccer fan. Euro leagues don't start too early, MLS games don't end too late.

Saprissa is going to have to shank a Timbers player to get a foul called on them.

When MLS gets to 24 teams, I really do hope they bring back the Central Conference.

Going to three conferences is for scheduling and travel benefits, but the 2 conference 24 team, 34 game schedule is simple and elegant. For 25-27 teams it would preserve the current scheduling model, putting off the need to choose between cutting some out some teams entirely in some years or reducing some in-conference series to once per year. It would change playoff structure, which is a bug for some and a feature for others.

Taken in sum, I don't think it will happen; after 24 we will probably see two conferences with two divisions.

As usual, some suspect officiating. Darlington Nagbe has done nothing, and Portland has had the bulk of the chances and can't convert.

    While I agree,

    Timbers out.

    Portland 1 -1 Saprissa

If they had finished the chances they had it would have been 4-1

For scheduling purposes. Sticking with 2 conferences makes perfect sense. since playing 2 times in conference(22), and 1 time out of conference(12) would be perfect for the current 34 game schedule.

It feel it was a major reason why Garber and the owners wanted to settle at 24 teams for awhile. 28 teams would setup a 40 game schedule.

@PTFC in KCMO: I'm watching from the other side of the country, but it just seems Portland should be experiencing more success than they are. Not just in the CCL, but they also just seem too good to be on the verge of missing the playoffs. What's missing with them? Or do I just have an inflated expectation of them.

Take a look at Mr. Darlington Nagbe, who for whatever the reason isn't into it this season.

I think it might be time to part wats with Nagbe. I think they could get a nice chunk of change for him and they would be able to bring in a DP caliber winger and a servicable backup for Valeri with the funds.

I honestly think he has gotten too confortable in Portland. He makes good money. He is a guaranteed starter no matter how good or bad he is playing. It shows in his play on the field IMO.

Is Liberia part of the Cotonou Agreement? Maybe someone in Spain could use him.

Perhaps Nagbe has been under Porter's tutelage too long. A new perspective might bring out the quality we all suspect is there.
