That was a great darting run and finish. He orchestrated the whole thing by directing the pass before too. So quick...
Well, that's disappointing. I can't believe someone thought this was a good idea, but still hoping it accomplishes whatever they think it will accomplish.
I'm not surprised the NFL is freaking the **** out. Ratings are still crushing everything else, but by a significantly smaller amount than just last year. There's a lot of speculation about why, but no clear conclusions. The drive to "do something" often results in doing something meaningless or even counterproductive.
Its why Pescadito has been around so long and is still productive. He's not quick. He's not a big, strapping guy. He just has a nose for goal. He knows what runs to make and where to position himself. He was MLS MVP, MLS Cup MVP, and MLS Golden Boot winner........................in 2002. Here's the goal-scoring chart for that season. Think of how long ago some of these guys have retired. Its a completely different era. Most current MLS fans probably don't know who the hell Chri Carrieri even is! Another interesting Pescadito stat. In 17 career MLS playoff games, he has 16 goals. That must be the best goal-scoring rate in MLS playoff history.
Two thoughts (in addition to agreeing the call is great): 1) The announcer calls him Pescado instead of Pescadito; I guess getting older and heavier means the diminutive -ito goes away; 2) I started this post about 20 minutes ago and can't recall the other point. Ah, I remember now. I can't believe how good the quality of the video clip in an embedded Tweet can be. Truly amazing.
It is because last year the shield went down to the last day between two teams from different conferences. Last year they moved the NYRB game to make sure it was still "exciting". This year with everything playing at the same time both ESPN and Fox had the ability to pick meaningful games. If ESPN had the East there would be nothing really going on to grab an audience since it is pretty much settled while Fox would have a bunch of games to choose from in the West. Now both can grab an important game and the whip-around show on ESPN2 can cover everything else.
Wait, the Rapids had 3 double-digit scorers? Does the current FO know that's allowed under the rules?
This makes sense. But I guess I assumed this schedule was set at the beginning of the season before the league would have any idea how the last weekend would play out.
They had a general idea that this would/does make some reasonable sense as a final day scheduling format.
Still in the bag: FC Dallas record is uniformly excellent: Code: W L T Pts/Game ----------------------------------- 17 8 8 1.79 pts/game (Overall) 14 7 6 1.78 pts/game (With Diaz) 3 1 2 1.83 pts/game (No Diaz) (I'm kidding...mostly. I mean, those records are real, but I am known to count wrong, and I'm not placing any great significance on 6 games, especially when most came in April.)
Why, this is standard practice in leagues around the world to have games on the final day played simultaneously.
And, let's be honest. Most fans in pretty much all sports are really only interested in watching their own team play. Those of us in these threads are the oddballs.
As Andy points out, we oddballs would like to watch more. Since the games from the "other" conference make no difference, such a game could be watched strictly for entertainment.
Had Dallas not come back to beat Seattle, then the Red Bulls would have been in contention for the Supporters Shield.
I don't want to create a new thread, but I want to point out to all you dedicated CCL watchers that Tigres - Herediano is on Galavision tonight, so you might be able to actually watch a live CCL game on something other than Facebook.
A lot of talk that FCD is going to use as much of a reserve roster as they can for their game in Guatemala. There's talk that even Carlos Ruiz didn't make the trip. Edit: That's confirmed ankle injury keeps Fish from traveling for CCL. https://t.co/ALyK6467S9— 3rd Degree (@3rdDegreeNet) October 18, 2016
May be in minority, but I love one week a year where all matches happen at once. Has me switching back and forth and barely any time goes by without something of note to discuss.
