The fact that Seattle can promote Sounders players to the MLS team could prove to be a boon. Says Ching: “I think Seattle has the unique advantage in that they have a good core of A-League players, guys who have been around and successful in the A-League. If you mix those guys in with some veterans of the MLS and some younger talent, then they’ll be a step ahead of other expansion franchises such as Toronto, San Jose, Chivas and Salt Lake.” The article also talks at length with Craig Waibel, another MLS vet with Seattle connections.
I bet Seattle is competitive from the very start. Nicol has proven that cohesion is more important than flash and talent when it comes to winning in MLS.
He doesn't know what he's talking about. That Chingy guy only knows about hiphop, not about MLS players. They will have to blow up the entire roster and bring in all new players. The players they have now could never be part of an MLS team. They're not even close to good enough.
I know of at least two that are...the USL-1 2007 MVP (Sebastien Le Toux) and the league leader in wins and saves (Chris Eylander). After that they'll look at a few others, and will be bringing in some foreign talent in 2008 with an eye on 2009. Let's remember the sum of parts is what matters, and this club clubbed MLS competition by a scoreline of 9-3 in last year's USOC. So no superstars, but plenty of possible 'pieces' to the puzzle, which is what Ching and the article are suggesting.
I think this is the Chingy drew_VT_6 is referencing.... He's a music hiphop star. drew_VT_6 was just messing with you.
We should know by the end of March at the latest. One thought is that they'll make the announcement on St. Patrick's Day (March 17) because it is widely believed the club's focus color will be green.
Yeah... I just gave you all the lines we heard in Rochester for years when there were rumors of an MLS team.
