Agreed. I would rather listen to that standby music that Apple uses on a continuous loop than listen to that gaggle of dipshits. They're the most Try Hard gang of boring people wanting to be entertaining I've ever had to put up with.
Sadly, I mostly agree with this. And its an awful shame, because a few years ago that crew produced the best segment of soccer analysis Ive ever seen, and its not even close. I just spent a few minutes scanning YouTube to find it and its not coming up. But it involved Henry and Schmeichel standing outside analyzing/demonstrating the movement of strikers vs defenders and their positioning. It was interesting and insightful and enlightening in a way that these shows should be all the time, but are not. Lately it seems its that crew desperately trying to go viral for short clips of them overly laughing at eyerolling nonsense.
The weekly previews usually suck , they have some ppl who do a good job but this week wasn’t one of them. I also hate no Saturday wrap up show because we have to wait till Sunday Games are played. So i have to go to watch each game recap individually. I think they need way more coverage for every team. This Apple deal isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
Did I read something about the ability to watch multiple games at the same time on the same TV...or did I imagine that?
I just read a report saying that AppleTV+ is losing a billion dollars a year. That more than likely dims their enthusiasm for loss leaders like MLS.Theyre going to want properties that, you know ,make money.
This opens up a whole conversation but seems like Apple's approach is like Amazon's in the sense they don't really care about the streaming platform as a stand alone business unit. Last I saw, there is only one streaming provider that is actually making money which is ....Netflix. It's their only business so they clearly have to approach it this way. Everyone else is tied to a larger parent company that will push the "loss leader" or other business strategies to justify losses. I recently heard the idea that sports rights/high end streaming movies or TV shows (which drive subscriptions) are its an arms race to unprofitability for the sake of relevancy.
I'm not so sure they care. I think they look at 1B as a write off and also AppleTV+ as marketing for their brand.
I was cool with apple tv until today when I tried to find a restuaruant/bar that was going to show the game. CBC Roosters Pecan Penny's Average Joe's Kitchen Social Old bag o nails Rusty bucket All said naw we aren't showing it or closed. Ended up watching it on my phone at dinner. Not great! But we did win away for 3rd time in 4 games thus season so sunshine and roses All said they're not showing it.
Hmm pecan pennies advertises on 97.1 that they show the crew and other soccer. Maybe they didnt reup. Its easy to access if the bar has direct TV or dish and pay for the package
Did anyone else have problems with the Vancouver game? It was choppy in a way that gave me vertigo. No buffering issues, but the combination of plastic field and video compression was not kind on my TV set. Switching to other games did not have this issue at all.
Dallas and Charlotte show games on delay. MLS/Apple allow such if it's at least 48 hours. https://awfulannouncing.com/mls/games-linear-tv-fc-dallas-rewind-apple.html
I normally don't use the AppleTV app other than for live Crew/Crew 2 games, so I'm probably a year late, but... Oh boy the inaugural game of MLS is all the emotions, the cheese-factor, the memories. Everything...and that's just the intro up to the first ten seconds of the game when the scorebug had a sponsor logo, said 44:50 and nothing else.

Most of their loss leading comes from the scripted programming, since they don't really get revenue from a lot of it, and some of it has to be hella expensive based on the content.
“The Apple deal has grown,” Garber said. “We’re averaging 120,000 unique viewers per match. That’s an increase of almost 50% compared to last year. Distribution has helped drive a lot of that. Now you can get MLS Season Pass on Comcast, on Direct TV, for the first time of any sports league, providing access to fans through EA FC Mobile.” MLS commissioner Don Garber addresses Messi, Jordi Alba missing All-Star Game - The Athletic
I have zero problems with MLS on Apple - works every time, stream quality is very high. Some of the announcers are annoying, looking at you Temu Howard Cosell, but Im very pleased with the quality of the broadcasts.
