What do u guys think of the current mls championship trophy? if u ask me it looks like a NFL trophy not that i hate the design. I actually think it's better than the first trophy they had.
The current Alan I. Rothenberg (MLS Cup) trophy is made by Tiffany & Co., the same company that has been making (and still makes) the Vince Lombardi (Super Bowl) trophy. -G
I agree about the trophy. The first one looked like there was some originality behind it. The new ones look like every other trophy out there.
It's not a bad looking trophy. Personally, I would like to see a Cup trophy that could actually hold a liquid - but the World Cup is not a Cup - so we're in good company there. Ranked in order of importance to MLS - this doesn't crack the Top 50. Lets get 2 stadiums built and 3 teams off crapstro-turf then we can tackle trophy design.
I hope the US wins it soon if for no other reason than I gotta believe that Mathis will find a way to drink out of it
Actually, the World Cup is a cup--it's formed from the figures that are holding their hands up on the sides. It doesn't look like a cup because a globe sits on it. Take the globe away, and you have your cup...
I'd like to see something like looks like a true piece of silverware; something that actually looks prestigious and worth fighting for. Like the Euro Championship trophy or the Gold Cup.
The best piece of US trophy by far has to be the Stanley Cup. Beautiful! We gotta get whoever does the Stanley Cup to do our trophey.
There isnt a company that makes the stanley cup since the same one is awarded every year. there is only one stanley cup.
Sorry guys, but it ain't yours. It's enscribed on it that it's for the champion of the Dominion of canada . We merely lent it to the NHL. And the Grey Cup is pretty cool while we're at it.
"The Vince Lombardi Trophy has crafted the Vince Lombardi Trophy since the first Super Bowl. " Stupid website.
Is that the mysterious piece of Metro silverware that warrented them the star on their badge? Or is it still the 2000 Eastern Division title?
Didn't they say in the press release that the: "star symbolizes the last half of the Metrostars team name which does not include a city or state so as to be more inclusive of the tri-state area which includes, funnili enough, Connecticut. This star does not in any way, shape or form imply that the Metrostars have won an MLS Cup in the past nor does it imply that the team will win the MLS Cup in the near future. It merely implies that we are a team without a city or state name attached. It may, however, be implied that the star does signify the team winning the conveted Eastern Divison title in 2000 and that our general manager went to a goalie practice in Nantes in 1982." Does that clear it up?
Northside: You said it best. Who cares about the trophy? What we need is stadia and new investors... The rest --all minutia in comparison to what matters-- will take care by itself...
That could be it, but I thought it was for them finishing top of the table in Spring Training back in the late 90's.
This link will take you to the actual reason the new Metro logo looks the way it does. http://www.mtbftr.com/new-logo/
I also like the idea of an actual silver cup, although I wouldn't go for something as obscenely large as the European Cup. I think the F.A. cup is a good trophy. As far as fancy cups and long history's are concerned, however, the America's Cup needs to be given it's due. http://americascup.yahoo.com/story11.html
mls kegger uhh, that looks like a pitcher. Why not just plate a nice keg with some silver and be done with it.
mtbftr.com is a hilarious website! why haven't i heard about this sooner? seriously, i'm laughing so hard i'm pissing my pants right now
Best Trophies: Stanley Cup, Grey Cup, World Series Trophy (Anyone know the name?) Worst Trophies: Vince Lombardi Trophy, Larry O'Brien Trophy (NBA Championship), MLS Cup Unrivaled, crapassenest, shitiest trophy in any sport at any level: the World Cup Trophy (All that? For this? Can't I get a free Ghostbusters thermos with balloons for the kids?)
