Colorado - Claret and Blue New York - Red and White New England - Blue, white and red D.C. - Black and white Dallas - red and white hoops chivas - candystripe Houstan - Orange and white LA- Green and Gold Kansas - White and Blue Toronto - Red and grey Salt Lake - Yellow, red and blue Chicago - Red and white Columbus - Black and Yellow Over half the teams have red or blue as a predominant colour. Why do you think this is? The new expansion teams should stay away from these colours.
I don't think RBNY really has red as a primary color any more, do they? There main jersey colors are white (ironically, at home) and black (road). Or am I wrong?
LAG will lose the green-and-gold during a re-branding timed for the arrival of Beckham. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/grant_wahl/01/17/beckham.qa/index.html ------------- Why should fans hold off buying a green-and-gold Galaxy jersey with Beckham's name on the back? Simple answer: because Becks will never wear green and gold with the Galaxy. The team is deep into the process of rebranding itself with new colors, a new shield and new uniforms. "We made a decision that it was time to start thinking through how we create a more worldly brand," Lewieke says. "We have a good name. Galaxy works. But we need a more legendary, traditional kind of look that's more of a soccer look." Leiweke predicts the new jerseys will be available in the next two months. What color will they be? "The last time I checked, when you're looking at a Galaxy it's not green or yellow. It's either black or dark blue," Leiweke says. Galaxy GM Alexi Lalas is more specific: "When I think of the Galaxy I think of dark blue." ------------- note that article was dated January 17, 2007, so Leiweke's two-month prediction seems to be a bit off. not that that is surprising.
They'll probably go to Red, White, and Blue just like every other team in the league. Purple...now there's a color! What if Real Salt Lake re-branded to Purple and Gold, since those are Royal colors. Just an idea...More variety
EPL - 75% Red or Blue variations. What were you saying? Arsenal - Red Villa - Claret & Blue Blackburn - Blue&White Bolton - White Charlton - Red Chelsea - Blue Everton - Blue Fulham - White Liverpool - Red Man City - Sky Man Utd - Red Boro - Red Newcastle - Black & White Pompey - Blue Reading - Blue hoops Sheff Utd - Candystripes Tottenham - White Watford - Yellow West Ham - Claret & Blue Wigan - Blue
I fail to see how gold and green is somehow less soccer-like than blue. If I were a Galaxy fan I would have bought one of their shirts long ago. Theyre great looking. Its a shame they are changing them just for Becks.
THEY AREN'T CHANGING IT JUST FOR BECKS. Goddamn it how many times do you people need to be told that. . .
So why are they changing it? Its just a huge coincidence that they have decided to re-brand the team the season he is coming over? And its an even more amazing coincidence that the first game he plays in will just happen to be the same game they debut the new unis? Wow. What amazing coincidences!
I always thought Rapids should of been green. Some of the coolest kits in Europe are green like Celtic, Werder Bremen, Betis, Panathinaikos, Rapid Wien, Racing, Sporting, St. Etienne etc... I'm just happy we have yellow and orange. Those two are still a bit rare in the world of football, and we have them covered already. I'd like to see a purple team one day a la Vikings or Fiorentina. A classy black and white stripe like Juventus would also look good. I don't think it'll ever happen, but I'd also like to see a chessboard pattern one day like Croatia NT. As long as we stay away from the Watford ketchp/mustard thing and the pink of Palermo we'll be OK.
What about having green in a city with a large Irish-American population ala Boston Celtics? Or would most Irish Americans even know what a four-four-two is?
Red White and Blue is pretty appropriate for NE, especially since they're named after the revolution that founded America. I was thinking green for Colorado because it goes well with their mountain motif that's also represented in their stadium design. But the timbers will fill that bill better than anyone.
So are a lot of New Englands support of Irish descent? Im just interested to know if people of Irish blood support a team that wears red, white and blue, no matter what the situation. As a community are Irish Americans interested in soccer? Or are they geared more towards other sports in America?
I always wondered why Bronze or Copper wasn't used mor extensively. That or a darker red (Crimson). Red is the most striking primary color, and white is a near necessity as, at least, an alternate color. Look at the primary colors of the World Cup Sides: Blue: Italy, France, Ukraine, Argentina, Japan (5) Red: Spain, Trinidad/Tobago, Czech Rep., Costa Rica, Paraguay, Serbia, Portugal, Angola, Croatia, Switzerland, Korea (11) White: England, USA, Germany, Poland, Iran, Ghana, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia (8) Green: Mexico (1) Yellow: Brazil, Ecuador, Sweden, Australia, Togo (5) Orange: Holland, Ivory Coast (2)
I think by the third generation there aren't that many Irish or any European imigrants that keep a connection to their motherland's sports. I'm sure there are exceptions especially in younger Irish Americans that have travelled or studied in Ireland but that's a small minority. And there's always some American's of Irish descent that participate in football, but that's not really due to their Irish roots. It's more a case of just being introduced to the sport just like any other American kid. Now 1st and 2nd generation Irish imigrants are different. I've heard that Celtic has some pretty sizeable supporter clubs in Boston and New York.
Thanks buddy! Yea I have family in South Ontario and Ice Hockey is no one for them but they also love football but don't really have a local team (until this season) although they support the Redwings in hockey. I have a friend who worked in Boston last year and he hung out in Irish Bars and he said that they are mad about football/soccer but they were supporting Celtic when they played the Revs in a friendly. (eurosnobs maybe) We have that problem in our domestic league (SPL/EPL snobs).
I agree that I would have liked to have seen Colorado go back to having green as part of the color scheme, but I'd have to given them credit that their "red and blue" are quite different from those used among other MLS teams. I wouldn't have a problem with all the red in MLS if only there were different shades, but Chicago, Dallas, Toronto and Chivas (plus formerly RBNY) all have very similar tones of red which gets kind of boring/repetative. Also, kudos to TFC for having a gray away jersey instead of the typical plain white. I would love to see a Potland team buy the Timbers name. Their jersey and logo would be excellent additions to MLS. It's a nice dark green, which would still leave open a nice opportunity for another MLS team to have a lighter, "kelly" green based jersey.
