I saw a picture of the sports betting areas at one of the casinos and the walls were all blank except for a few things.
Got word yesterday at work my office is shutdown starting today through the rest of the month. I don't have to work from home yet, they don't have the laptops for everyone... word is they ordered a shit ton of laptops... So I may have to start working again at some point. But for now, video games. Plus I am stocked up on toilet paper, unintentionally bought literally right before the rush happened.
My brother-in-law's employer has laptops for everyone, but they don't have the VPN accounts for pretty much anyone and they don't have the capacity to handle everyone tunneling in. I would imagine stanger's wife's company is getting a phone call about now.
My employer is having a work-from-home day on Tuesday, as a trial run to see how everything will work (or not) if they have to close the office in the near future. There are similar concerns about the internet connection and the number of VPN tunnels coming in at once.
I realize that the best way to slow down the spread of COV-19 is to limit big public gatherings as much as possible. Unfortunately, it's becoming spring break time for a lot of colleges and I doubt too many students will want to stay home with their parents. As an example, this is a camera at Fort Myers Beach. Doesn't look like anybody's staying home. https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/w...lorida/fort-myers-beach/fort-myers-beach.html
Perhaps, but I wager the number of people on that beach is significantly lower than what would normally be on that beach during spring break.
That camera is right by a resort, so it's probably one of the more crowded areas on the beach. Still, it looks like there's plenty of space between people.
This week we've gone from "WFH if you want" to "we're relaxing the WFH rules" to "we strongly recommend you WFH". I WFH most of the day but had to come in to meet a contractor for our internal IT. Starting Monday I'm WFH full time.
My employer went from "WFH only if you're in the at-risk categories or have contact with anyone in the at-risk categories" to "Everyone can WFH if you want" to "We strongly recommend you WFH" to "Unless your job requires you to come into the office, you must WFH" all within a couple of hours last week.
Some might look at this as hyperbole, and maybe this virus might suddenly go dormant in 1-2 months like SARS and MERS did, but there are going to be a lot of extremely shocked people if it lasts much longer and the economic ramifications become clearer. Medical experts are estimating that 40-70% of the global population will become infected, including up to 150M Americans (with some researchers predicting that actual cases in the US are already between 50K to 500k). If all that ends up being true, who knows how things will look like on the other side. One thing that perplexes me is how various economists are saying that this isn't a financial crisis or that it may lead to a 'possible' recession, when we're at the beginning of a prolonged social distancing campaign and businesses are already needing financial support. Am I living in an alternate reality or are we living in a global economy during a global pandemic? Does anyone know how MLS is leveraged financially if the season is cancelled. A big deal was made of how the league needed to complete the CBA on time so that the league start date wouldn't be delayed. Well, now there's a possibility the whole season could be cancelled. How much worse will all this affect MLS compared to the NBA, NHL, or MLB, especially since NT games are postponed and the league also relies on revenue streams from those games? From what I've read, ESPN is the frontrunner for the next TV rights package, but with the financial hit they'll be taking from this situation, I'm also wondering if this will significantly alter negotiations. A-League is still playing tonight and tomorrow.
I guess a silver lining is that if the season is suspended no one can ever end in the wooden spoon position....
At this point I’d be worried if I’m a NWSL owner. And wasn’t there some sort of mandate that MLS teams become more involved/invested in the women’s game? Thx, Jay!
Yes, and USL, and NISA. Four of them own or share ownership with an NWSL team, but that's not a mandate.
That's why colleges around the nation are essentially closing (going to online instruction) for the two weeks (or more) after each respective spring break. Enough time for the mixing and matching of folks at spring breaks to have run its course. A badly out of date (more than 24 hours) map I've been working on. https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1Sy6E8qu3KiEypYM7j3yZUwPic9Luq1X2&usp=sharing
Italy is reporting a 14.5% death rate, and their situation seems to be about 2x better than ours. We might be looking at 20 million dead in the United States. Most of us will be left without parents by the time this is all set and done...
Meanwhile, in the real world, the worst case scenario from the CDC, a model that assumed there was no effort made to stop the spread of the virus, was 1.7M dead. 20M is ridiculous hyperbole. https://www.google.com/amp/s/thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/487489-worst-case-coronavirus-models-show-massive-us-toll?amp (For comparison, I read approx 2.8M Americans die every year from all causes of death) Also you’ve doubled the mortality rate in Italy, it’s actually 7.1% https://www.pharmaceutical-technolo...coronavirus-deaths-measures-airports-tourism/

But it's not 1%. It's going to be about 20 percent because of our ********ed up health care system. In other words I was being conservative... perhaps the doth toll will be 30 million not 20.
