Australia and new Zealand cases are about to skyrocket, but it's only because a very infected cruise ship. Guam probably has the highest number of cases per capita in the world, but it's only because of a very infected aircraft carrier.
The showrunners did a poor job wrapping up the all the plotlines in the final season, but that's common.
Looks like the University of Washington projections are not accurate. Cases in Italy went up today instead of the dramatic drop predicted.
Still hard to judge models when the data fed into then, and ultimately compared to, is so imperfect. How many tests have they done? When did people actually die? Sometimes a bunch of cases get added days after death. In some cases more tests are done so despite a decrease, the tests show an increase because previous data was so under reported. Add into this China's and Iran's obviously fake numbers, Italy and other countries inability to count all of the at-home deaths, and unequal testing availability and reliability and basically all of the numbers out there are generally useless.
NBA trainers said players will need at least 1 month before the season resumes to train and get back into shape. That probably makes resumption even more complicated.
At this point, I'd watch pub darts, if it's live. Watching not fully fit pro athletes? No problem. I mean, I've followed MLS since '96, when all the training and fitness work in the world couldn't make up for profound lack of talent. No one wants to see guys get injured (which is probably the real issue here), but besides that, I'd not be too concerned about rolling out teams that clearly are back in preseason form.
I watched two brothers who play rugby do trivia yesterday. Then the iRacing Indycar, which I didn’t know was going on, even though I watched the NASCAR ones. Some network could make a killing with an intra-sport trivia/Jeopardy program running a daily competition. iRacing should really play up Mem Day weekend. Invite F1, Indy and NASCAR stars all to qualify and run Monaco Saturday, Indy Sunday and Charlotte Monday. All networks get a race, make it a weekend thing. Is it weird that the NBCSN twitter account hasn’t tweeted itself since November? Thx, Jay!
I also think that we're to the point that positive test results isn't a meaningful statistic due to gross variances in testing depth, strategy, and reporting. More consistent numbers are hospitalizations and deaths, which unfortunately are now occurring in large enough sample sizes to be meaningful.
Our own @JenksNBCS called play-by-play of his morning walk with his 15-year-old basset hound, Josie. You take 'Sitting on the Sidewalk' at +150 any day of the week 😂 @dog_ratespic.twitter.com/HfGHHfMT0V— NBC Sports (@NBCSports) April 2, 2020
If every sport needs that much time, it certainly makes restarting easier for MLB and MLS than the NBA and NHL.
Why is MLB easier? It has a lengthy pre- season. How long can starting pitchers go for after a long break?
They have more time to drag out this season (next season's spring training starts next February) as opposed to the NHL (this September) and NBA (this September/October).
There have been some charity FIFA esports matches. LAFC did a series with Dallas, the Galaxy, and Houston.
