MLB has bit the bullet. Spring Training games just went up in smoke and the season is delayed 2 weeks. BREAKING: Major League Baseball has officially suspended spring-training games and will delay the start of the regular season by at least two weeks.— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) March 12, 2020
So what's left in the sports world of note to officially cancel? March Madness EPL & EFL matches Paris-Nice and the Spring Classics like Paris-Roubaix
MLR has suspended their season.. Not that I'm complaining.. The Seawolves are 1-4 this season. Major League Rugby suspends the 2020 season for 30 days, effective immediately.Read more here: https://t.co/mjEahIAj1O pic.twitter.com/OcZk9QPu7c— Major League Rugby (@usmlr) March 12, 2020
Copa Lib has been suspended. BREAKING: South American football organization @CONMEBOL decided to suspend the Copa Libertadores indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak. Random info but Portugal's Primeira Liga stopped play today. Only a matter of time for the rest of Europe.
If by March Madness* you mean the NCAA tournaments, those have now been cancelled along with the other championships. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...8893285/ncaa-tournaments-canceled-coronavirus *March Madness was originally the Indiana and Illinois high school tournaments. Indiana switched over to Hoosier Hysteria and the colleges stole March Madness from Illinois. Indiana had the original Final Four, btw, way before the NCAA.
Oh boy, if MLS and/or MLB decide to make up even some of these lost games, the NYCFC schedule will be.............. Lol.
Rapids sent everyone home early today, but that might have been because of the change in travel schedule anyway.
Restricting travel...First Europe, now Washington state? https://www.seattletimes.com/life/t...-the-coronavirus-outbreak-has-gotten-too-hot/ https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/12/world/coronavirus-live-news-updates.html#link-771b107 I feel like we're all about to feel like we're in a bad episode of "Under the Dome".
I suspect the EPL will be re-assessing their decision.. Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta tests positive for coronavirus: pic.twitter.com/ceaYEzm26s— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) March 12, 2020 There is a zero percent chance that Arteta is the only person at Arsenal that is positive.
Imagine being a sad sack of s*** that a pro/rel zealot is promoting an awful situation for everyone involved just to push a eurosnob agenda Turning a negative into a positive: Now’s the time for MLS/USL and all American pro soccer to convert to European (Fall to Spring schedule). Take the summer off and start in earnest in September. Take advantage of this situation to build a better future.— Daniel Workman (@danielworkman) March 12, 2020
And the re-assessment will happen tomorrow.. Not sure why they are waiting until tomorrow. I mean, sure it is midnight in England, but still. The Premier League will convene an emergency club meeting tomorrow morning regarding fixtures after Mikel Arteta tested positive for COVID-19 Statement: https://t.co/ofi5DhIQZM pic.twitter.com/RmnxRHXooz— Premier League (@premierleague) March 12, 2020
The amount of money that will be lost just in North America alone with cancellation or suspension of NCAA March Madness, NBA, NHL,MLS, and MLB is just astonishing.... Put together it must number in the billions when you add in not only ticket sales, but food sales, parking, merchandise, tv money, commercials and sponsorships etc. At least The Players PGA golf tournament will go on as scheduled but without fans in attendance....
