Those coupons are damn near platinum!! I like taking up the whole cutting table space while the milfs, gilfs, or cougars wait their turn.

This die-hard Timbers fan was truly impressed by the ECS' epic tifo. Amazing job.

On Saturday night I accused the ECS of using a CNC plotter to do their tifo. These pics prove they did it by hand. Apologies. (yes I am actually apologizing to the ECS - cats and dogs and all that).

Since the world is full of questions, here ya go.

tee's Decade of Dominance FAQ v1.0:

    • In the fist, is that the Timbers logo?
      • If you rearranged the pieces, you might get what used to be the Timbers logo before it got scrapped. Apparently this logo had some kind of big unveiling which led to booing and hard feelings and Merritt ranting about minor league logos. You know, the usual supporters drama. Fortunately everybody involved has hugged it out since then. As a side consequence, however, this is no longer the Timbers logo and the TA will probably get annoyed with you if you insist that it is, because this one has too many space-age yellow XFL lines or whatever was wrong with it as opposed to their current superior-authenticity model logo. So don't insist that it is!
    • But I can't tell the difference between this old logo and the real Timbers logo!
      • That is not a question.
    • But I can't tell the difference between this old logo and the real Timbers logo?
      • You are not (choose one) 1) perceptive 2) authentic 3) hipsteriffic enough. Alternatively, it could just be the cameraman's fault.
    • Does anybody know what the dimensions of that logo would be?
      • It is half as high as these logos:
    • Does anybody have any info on how many man hours it took to paint that logo?
      • About half as many as this logo: (we weren't quite as sharp at doing these back then)
    • How did you get a gig as a giant hand on tifo?
      • When you draw with your right hand, and you want to draw a hand, the path of least resistance is to use your left hand as a model.
    • Are you excited that your left hand is now world famous?
    • Isn't there supposed to be a bottom part on that Sounders tattoo?
      • Yeah, I totally forgot to draw that part. Wait, I mean I totally forgot to program that part into the CNC printer.
    • Did anything else get messed up?
      • Actually, somebody painted Schmetzer's irises white, which absolutely nobody but me would ever notice but it's still vaguely annoying since I didn't mark them to be painted white. In a related note, if you zoom in on Montero's irises written on them in green Sharpie is something to the effect of "if you also paint these white, I will find out who you are, I will find out where you are, and then you will get stabbed with a green Sharpie".
    • What did you think when you heard you were then weren't a CNC printer?
      • I thought the only appropriate response to the whole silly experience was to make a forum signature out of it. :D

    1. Nice display from Portland. Can't recall seeing a bettercoordinated away display.

    2. Just 'holy shit!' level of greatness from that Seattle display. Indisputably amazing. Congrats.

I'm not sure that's what people really want. If we've decided to adopt a standard hardly anybody really wants, then maybe it's the standard that needs to change to "no rivalries posts" but other dialogue is fine. I mean, it isn't as if we didn't just go through all of the hand wringing and rigmarole about the nature of this thread. It was pointed out by many people - several quite rudely - that the problem was the standard set to something people didn't want. And here we are.

I've moved what I saw as the worst of the lot, after moving and infracting multiple times over the weekend, and also late last week.

I think he was just pointing out that using machines is sort of cheating when it comes to this stuff. He thought they were using machines and acknowledged his mistake. It's cool though. Your tin foil hat is in the corner by the way. ;)

one thing is to use a sewing machine and the other is to use Industrial printers to do it.

I have to agree that a manual labor represents more on the effort of the SGs, than a cuple of hours of photoshop and paying someone else to do it.

I think it comes down to a matter of the pride you have for the display.

If you do the work yourself, and not hire a second party company to create the banner and paint it, then you are going to have more pride in the display.

Of course this is my personal take on it, and others might have a different opinion.

We create these displays out of the passion we have for our club.

Sending money to a company to have it created does not hold the same meaning to me.
Just opening up a box and holding up a banner that was outsourced doesn't seem like something you can be as proud of to me.

You are free to feel otherwise.

I'm also not understanding why it would be any less meaningful if a group did all the design work and then had a banner simply fabricated professionally.

Why is it ok to buy the banners then, and not weave them yourself? Are people using their own hair to create paint brushes? Or making paint from scratch?

To me the idea and the execution are by far the most important parts. Everything inbetween is just getting from point A to point B.

Much of what we try and do as supporters is to help create the idea of a match as a community event, and that the team represents our community. To sing and support the team in the stadium together as a group is then part of who we are. Even if we watch an away match on TV, we prefer to gather together to watch it.

So, the experience of working on a big project like this together, rather than one person writing a check, is important in building the group and a greater sense of community.

Plus it's fun. The thousands of man hours (3200 last estimate I heard) were done as lots of 'tifo parties', with an emphasis on 'party'.

Just my personal opinion as just a member. Apologies for not being able to attach a photo.

I guess it's a matter of mentality, don't know how else to put it to you.

Sure, you can contract out, just like for landscaping, or handyman work around the house, plumbers, etc. But when you do something yourself, especially something that takes a lot of time and effort... you take more pride in it. Not to mention saving a bunch of money.... but that's a distinctly MINOR reason in the grand scheme of things.

I look at a group like District Ultras in DC... may not have the numbers and the resources that ECS, TA, or even North End Elite do... but the quality of the displays they do are fabulous, and I know those guys bleed their club's colors... just like we do. It'd be even easier for them to contract out being a smaller group, but huge respect to what they do for doing it inhouse, so to speak.

For us, these projects serve to build loyalty, comraderie, and passion amongst the supporters. We went from literally less than a dozen ppl doing tifo work a few years ago to many many times that many now (varies from project to project who's available, etc). I've literally seen very casual fans (not the burberry wearing kind, mind you) become some of the most dedicated passionate supporters... not just on matchday but every day.
