I'm shocked that you guys have no discussion of the upcomming MLS SuperDraft. Especially considering all of the speculation of the phenomenal prospect that people are slating to the Galaxy.

I am quite curious whether the Galaxy will have to trade up to select him. In my Mock SuperDraft for TopDrawerSoccer.com I have him going to the Galaxy at #8, but with the draft combine reports Rob has up now, it seems that he might not be there at #8 because of his stellar showings thus far.

Here's the link to the Mock SuperDraft. Go to the home button to see all of the Combine content and player bios.

i doubt the Galaxy fans are worry about the 2003 season... besides, except for few players, there's no players that could help the galaxy immediately. Being a Metrostar fan, i doubt there's any problem the Galaxy won't repeat as champion esp if they do decent in their first 8 away games.

    Goog draft

We need a number 10, and possibly a couple of young backs.

in your mock draft you have the Galaxy taking Gonzalez, would be a perfect fit, Mex-Amer. who plays midfield.

Although Senor Sigi isnt as apt to trust the draft then he believes in more outright finds from other places.

He's got a few draftees that are just plain duds,

Personally i think : Moreno, Bardales jr., and Mullan are marginal players at best.

He likes to find hidden talent in central and south amer. look for him to be cooking something up with a find down there. a trade could be in order.

They need another credible scoring threat to pair up with Ruiz.

Moreno proved his worth at the end of last season, doubtful he'll be going anywhere.

There are Draft discussions on other G boards. Just about everyone thinks Memo will be taken with the #8 pick.

Besides that, out of Sigi's 8 picks last year, only 2 were left standing at the end of the season. GG was injured after starting the season strong, and Moreno came out of no where to become a fairly regular partner for Fish. Besides Memo, maybe one other pick (that Ryan guy from UCLA?) will make any impact. Chris Albright aside, the depth we have up front (Tennyson, Moreno, GG) I don't see Sigi going after a striker that early in the draft.

Still, the only thing I'm certain of this time around is to expect more younger players to be taken with the increase in the number of Developmental Slots available.

What I saw from Moreno was unimpressive. He hustles a lot, but gets little done. I predict that Tennyson will start this year. Just from the standpoint of the physical threat he presents to a defense it will be worth it to have him out there to take attention away from Ruiz. And he proved at Portland that he can score at the pro level.

Yeah, but "just about everyone" has a very poor track record of predicting draft picks beyond the first five players selected.

I do think that a talented young Latino player that can be groomed to take over our central midfield would be perfect. But I have thought the same thing in the previous two drafts and it hasn't happened yet.

Myself, I'd like to see additional competition at the wide flank positions as well. Cobi is still going strong, but he can't keep this up forever. Mullan, Bardales, Glinton, Albright - these guys may provide the answer, but why not bring in some other guys to learn the ropes in case they don't.

Our defense looks very solid, from the two keepers to a backline that includes Marshall, Lalas, Hong and Califf. There might be a need for depth at outside back, but that's got to be a secondary interest in the draft.
The same thing can be said of most teams' picks last year. The tight rosters were to blame.

The draft pool was also alleged to be weak last year depthwise, whereas this year it is supposed to be stronger.

If you're referring to Futagaki, I figure his small size will make him a late round pick, if he gets picked at all.

I think in terms of impact, you're right, there are unlikely to be very many players that do the job league-wide, not just with the Galaxy. The league has matured and it's much more difficult to break right into the lineup than it was in the early years of the league. I don't expect that to change. If anything, it will become more difficult.

You'll have to excuse me for not paying attention the last couple of months, but I don't know how many developmental slots there will be this year. Last I heard it was four per team. Have they increased that number?
