I think "takes off derring-do" is a Jon Champion staple. He is a Yorkshireman, home of Robin Hood.

Just got a news alert that UEFA has approved pitch-side rainbow advertisements. Days after they rejected Munich's request to light the stadium in rainbow colors.

To paraphrase Churchill, UEFA is the worst run confederation, except for all the others.

If you could click on one and pull it larger, I would like it much better (maybe some platforms let you, but I couldn't figure it out if so).

    UEFA? More like BOO-EFA!
Although, I could see them allowing the advertising boards to show support for Pride Month. After all, if UEFA said 'no', the company might say something like, "Fine. Don't come calling in the future when you're looking for advertising money for your competitions." Maybe Munich's stadium light request came too late to approve? Even so, they shouldn't have asked and just gone ahead and done it. Sort of along the lines that sometimes, it's easier to apologize than gain permission!

That Italy goal was gorgeous. Chiesa. That touch around the defender was fantastic.

It hurts my brain because when people use alternate when they mean alternative.

Apparently the American dictionaries have given up and accepted alternate to be an alternative meaning of alternate.

Second half here has not been kind to the Netherlands. Red card for DOGSO, now they fall behind to the Czechs and with ~twenty left, it's a long hill to climb for the Dutch.

That's the dagger. 2-0 in the 80th and the Czechs will play the Danes in the quarters. Schick has had a great tournament so far.

Given your background maybe you can answer this question. Why does ESPN still refer to the team as the Czech Republic? I thought the country had changed the short/informal name of the country to Czechia.

I was wondering about this too; not that it matters all that much (unless you live there). Hopefully, Ismitje can serve as the ultimate Fact Czecher here.

I believe Czech Republic is still the official name, with Czechia basically being a marketing/nickname.

I may be wrong but I thought it was like how "Germany" is actually the Federal Republic of Germany officially and "France" is actually the French Republic officially. The Czech Republic is the official name but "Czechia" would be the equivalent to "France" or "Germany".
