Slow day at work so I figured I'd post some preliminary stadium designs, and those of the stadiums that never materialized. Always interesting to see what the current stadiums evolved from. Feel free to add and discuss.

I'll start with Toronto for no particular reason.

These designs aren't that drastically different from what they currently play in now at BMO field!

That's because he's only posting the renovation designs.

The top two no, the bottom one yes. That design was designated for one of the universities they were supposed to partner with, not sure which one, and the stadium would have been shared with football. You can see the actual outline of the football field in the drawings.

I don't think was ever a design for the Dynamo stadium, I'm pretty sure it's just a photo-shopped HDC.

There was also another design floating around that was basically later given to Ottawa. So if you look at that stadium design, remove the building on the bottom, and you'll have one of the original Metrostars stadium concepts.

This is fun, D. I forgot how many stadium design changes we have seen. Remember the original one (99, I think) with the playground? Any chance you have that design lying around somewhere?

I'm not able to find it. I do remember that according to Sakiewicz back in 1999, the very first concept for the Metrostars was supposed to mirror Parma's stadium. So it was supposed to look something like this:

Also. When NYC 2003 expansion was announced back in 1999, they had a general outline of a stadium plan that was supposed to be built at Aqueduct. I doubt anyone still has an image of that lying around.

By the way, great find on the original RSL drawing. I attempted to find the original designs for Milwaukee, but couldn't come up with anything.

    Not quite.

The first two pictures were the original renderings from 2003, before the stadium project moved around to other sites in the region. The third picture is a model of the Varsity Stadium site, which would have seen the stadium shared with the University of Toronto and the Toronto Argonauts, completely paid for by MLSE (and located in the heart of downtown Toronto).

good find, this was the VERY FIRST drawing for an RSL stadium that was meant to be downtown. there has since been at least 4-5 different renderings of what an RSL stadium would look like.

cool thread idea, its always interesting to see the change from initial idea renderings to the final product.
