    Who will the Burn waive?

    For sure: Deering, Dunseth, Hendrickson

    Buzz's best guesses:
    http://www.3rddegree.net/thirdindex.cfm?page=article&show=83

    Miranda and Curtis.

Of course, if we still haven't officially signed the mysterious non-British 'player X' yet we may only have to waive one.

Are the other MLS teams releasing any players we can use? We already know about DC and Reyes. What about that LA teaser in Buzz's report? Think they'll waive Suarez?

    Other waiver RUMORS:

Crew waive defenders McCarty and Clark.

    Quakes waive Rodrigo Faria.

I'm guessing that Wagenfahr made it because of our depth problems at LB. As far as Ty Maurin, is he supposed to be potential depth at L-mid or d-mid?

Personally, I would rather have seen Curtis than Rhine as the 4 forward, but I guess I don't see them everyday in camp.

Speaking of Wagenfuhr - a couple of items to correct - he was the first pick in the 4th round - not the 5th round. Anyone who has followed his career (see gocreighton.com) will see that this isn't a surprise. He made the team because the kid can play. Started 89 of 90 games in his college career - 7th on the all-time assist board - played more minutes that anyone in Creighton's history (more than Ross Paule, Brian Mullen, Rich Mulrooney, Brian Kamler, etc)... If someone wants to do the math, my guess is that he's lead the country in minutes played and games started over his 4 years. So, the kid can play. The draft was a mystery to all of us that follow him. He should have gone no later than the 2nd round... He was 1st team all-american with College Soccer News, Hermann semi-finalist - I still contend that he was a victim of bad PR from a coach that didn't recruit him and therefore didn't "highlight" him to the public. Even Soccer America listed him as one of the top four defenders in this draft. So, those of you who haven't seen him play, I think you will be pleasantly surprised and realize that his ability, hard work, and skill got him the roster spot, not simply because of a position. As a huge Creighton fan, I will be a Dallas fan, and know that I will enjoy watching David (Wags) mature into the great professional that those of us who have watched him know that he will be. Personnally, I think Chris Gbandi needs to watch out. And yes, to whoever asked the question about whether Wags played in the Creighton/UConn D-1 final (Gbandi's sr. year and Wag's freshman year) the answer is yes.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, you'll still need about $2 to get a good cup of coffee.

Pay no attention to the Rapids schmuck.

I'm glad to hear it about Wagenfahr. I'd heard rumblings that he might be able to play higher than his draft position, but your scouting report was quite thorough. I sure hope he turns into a solid pro as we desperately need more players at his position and more quality young players in general. It's rather impressive he made the full squad, not merely the dev roster. I'll be looking out for him.

Whatever. You're just bitter because the Rapid's top pick decided to run off to Europe rather than playing for Colorado.

I for one am looking forward to seeing Wags play in Mississippi on the 27th.

Doesn't matter how many games played Wagenfuhr has...or the Hermann Trophy he almost got...can't wait to see how he pans out. At this point, it's all about Clarke's politics, and who he favors. He can be the best player in the league, but if the coaching staff doesn't put faith in him and develops him as a pro, he won't have a shot. It's unfortunate in this league how some players get a shot, and some don't...Keep in mind Curtis DID win the Hermann and has the Duke record for goals scored, and you see where he is...on a plane home.

I understand that none of Wags' past matters at this point - I simply stated it as reference to the fact that this kid isn't a nobody out of nowhere. He's been capped with the U20's - he's been around for quite a while. Just thought it would be helpful for those who don't know him simply to have some of his background. Certainly, he's young, needs MLS experience, etc. Very likeable kid - he'll out work everyone - that's for sure. I think you folks in Dallas will really like Wags as a player and as a community member - he's a great PR kinda guy, quiet, unassuming, loyal, loves kids and coaching them...no ego issues, consummate team player.
From all of us in Omaha, we sure wish him the best and hope that you guys in Dallas see what we've seen with this young man.

Hopefully we don't see much of Wagenfuhr. No offense to him, but we have a lot invested in Gbandi, who has a higher upside at least on paper. So if we are seeing a lot of Wagenfuhr this year it means Gbandi has turned out be a complete bust.

Though, if he is all you make him out to be I reckon he could make a nice defensive sub for Quill to hold leads late in matches. So, how about not see him in large quantities.

Unless Gbandi turns around his unfortunate history of injury, we WILL be seeing a lot of Wagenfahr this season. And with Quill in front of him, he better be up to snuff.

What kind of physical stats are we talking about? Height, weight, speed? Do you know SocFanMan2?

Wags is 5'9" - 5'10" - about 165 - plays "bigger" than he is, if you know what I mean. He's fast, not the fastest on the team, but can run forever - amazing fitness level. Incredible work rate. Smart on defense to cover speedy forwards. Hope that helps. He can play midfield also - has good vision and great sense of the game. I'm sure he's learning lots, but he comes to you as a pretty complete player package.

Me too, but I'd guess that we just don't have the money.

I believe that if you take a player in the waiver draft you pay the current contract terms...so I agree with Jambon - we don't have the $$$. We do have somewhere around 35k - 60k left under the cap. I don't think Reyes would play for that - and Alegria would need to beat out Glinton for that final roster spot.

My money's on the roster being set for now.

(Edit: I guess this puts a lid on the rumors of Mike Clark and Ryan Suarez being waived. Anyone know for sure?)

This is confusing to me. The Quakes have announced that Rodrigo Faria is not longer with the team, yet his name is not included in the waiver draft. Why? There HAS to be more then 8 players that were waived. Why does MLS only list 8?

I heard a comment that Faria was left off the waiver draft because he never showed up for training camp - I'm sure there is more to it, but that's what I heard.

Seems that no draftees that were cut are listed, and I know Colorado has been granted an extention to work out their roster / salary cap issues.

Based on 3rd debrees site, the Burn still own the rights to last year's draft picks that didn't make the team.

I guess you keep the rights to drafted players for 2 full seasons, even if they don't make the team initially.

Part of his playing "bigger" is that he has excellent timing. I've seen him on more than one occasion time his tackle as a player is turning, etc., in such a way that he is still standing with the ball while a bigger guy hits the turf. He also plays "older" than he looks, too, since his face makes him look like a 12-year-old--which I suspect has misled more than one opponent into thinking he would be soft.

He also has a good feel for the flow of the match. Early this past season, when Creighton was struggling to find itself (and the forwards were struggling to find the net), Wagenfuhr was the guy who would change the flow and direction of the match in a positive way--confident on the ball, good field vision, smart and accurate passes.

I think you'll be pleased with him, whichever position he ends up playing. Like SFM2, my son and I are two Creighton fans who will be rooting for Dallas now (although we still are a bit put out by the Burn not signing Tranchilla last year :) ).
