I'm doing this for two reasons...

    1. I want to keep track of who has and who has not re-signed with MLS
    2. This allows me to keep my list up to date for the draft league I'm planning on running (sorry, league is full... I'll share my excel file if you want to run one as well)

    with that here we go:

    Re-signed Players
    Brian Kamler with NE
    Igor Simutenkov with KC
    Robin Fraser with Columbus (?)
    Andy Williams with Chicago

    Reportedly close to Re-Signing
    Jason Kreis with Dallas
    Oscar Pareja with Dallas

    Moving on
    Clint Mathis (Hannover)
    Carlos Bocanegra (Fulham)
    Marco Etcheverry (retired)
    Cienfuegos (retired)
    Hristo Stoitchkov (retired)
    Brian West (Europe)
    Chad Deering (retired?)
Alexi Lalas (Quakes GM & Pres)
    Casey Schmidt (retired)
    Andrzej Juskowiak (Europe)

    Out of Contract
    Cobi Jones
    Zach Thornton
    Chris Albright
    Antonio "Chivas" Martinez
    Diego Serna
    Wes Hart
    Jeff Agoos
    Ronnie Ekelund
    Jay Heaps
    Dario Fabbro
    Ezra Hendrickson
    Steve Morrow
    Nhleko
    Brian Dunseth
    Tenywa Bonseu
    Richie Williams
    Steve Jolley (?)
    Jamie Moreno
    Christopher Leitch

San Jose papers have reported in the last two days that Ekelund is being resigned. All that is needed is Ronnie's signature and to work out some VISA issues.

And didn't "Chivas" Martinez sign with a 2nd division Spanish side?

I thought Nhleko had resigned as well. Maybe he was just "close" to resigning, and hasn't actually resigned.

And even though we've disagreed on issues before, I'm very disappionted I can't be in your draft league!! Here's to hoping someone else starts one as well. :)

Wes Hart is not going to be re-signed, Toni Nhlecko has a new multi-year contract, Morrow is retiring.

Etcheverry goes into the "moving on" category, doesn't he? In the stories on his departure from DC, he is said to be heading to Bolivia to play in the Liberatadores for Bolivar.

Chivas Martinez is 'moving on' to Cordoba of Spain's 2nd Division.

Link can be found in the Dallas Burn forum.

Thank goodness Igor Simutenkov resigned. I think he's a great addition to MLS. And one of the more talented SIs the league has these days.

    Steve Jolley

Steve Jolley is with Dallas (traded from Metro). Unless something happened since then.

Traded for Bonseu (who is now with Metro, obviously).

Moreno is most likely retired. And Chris Leitch is still a Metro, I think.

I'de also love to be in a draft league, i'm tired of the stupid salary cap ones (not my preference)...I like fantasy football leagues where you have the draft and pick players that only play for your team...anyways, if someone else is going to do one or already runs one please let me know...thanks

If Chris Albright doesn't re-sign and decides to play in the PDL, will Bruce still call him into Nats camp?

That's exactly what I was thinking. At the same time you can maybe see the importance of the MLSPU because with so many of these guys it's not what their value on their feild is, it all comes down to economics. However, how you feel about Chris Albright's value on the feild is a different story.

So for guys out of contract as listed above, what usually happens to them?

Well what usually will happen is that they'll just resign another deal, in some cases a better one in other cases they'll be forced to resign for less money. With the player's above, it'll be interestign to see what happens with them. I'd imagine that Agoos is a lock to resign whether Cobi goes the way of Lalas is a different story, Serna... I don't know about him. I'd quess that at least two out of those 3 are a lock to be resigned. I can't see Cobi or Agoos leaving the league or having to retire, I'm not so sure about Serna.

I agree. I would think - probably stupidly - that Cobi and Agoos are locks to return. They're basically "holding out" to squeeze as much out of their lowered contracts as they can.

Serna OTOH may have seen his last MLS playing surface.

    it is re-signed.... not resigned

    they are entirely different things

    Great thread Mr. Meissen.

    Thanks for the homework.

BTW, I believe that it was reported that Chris Brown has already re-signed with NE.

Ekelund is definitely in the "close to re-signing" category.
