Hi all. New to the board, but very glad to have found this forum. I've personally seen an improvement in the quality of soccer played in the MLS over the last few years. I see more controlled posessions, better build ups, and just the little things that make the game flow. Does anyone think the MLS game is improving year to year? Anyone disagree and see no/negative growth? Curious what others see on the field.
The 90s were some enjoyable years. In my opinion, I think that the defense has made some significant strides. Part (but not all) of this success is attributed to an offense that is better than the 90s, but still not up to par.
i feel boring to watch : Chicago & Crew , and the best quality team in MLS this year in my opinion is Earthquake.
The quality has definitely improved in the last few years. The contraction helped, and now we have capable guys like Wolyniec and Cerritos on the bench. There are also a lot of younger, talented players like Gaven and Mapp who are getting the chance to play every week and develop, which wasn't the case for the first few years of MLS.
No doubt, much better play today than at the beginning. It hasn't always been a steady progression from year to year, but no question that the worst team this year (not naming any names) would probably bitch slap every team from that first year. If we think the depth in MLS is lacking now, just look back to the guys who were sitting on the bench in '96...
