I like the old indoor soccer name "Phoenix Inferno" --reference to the heat here plus the hell we're gonna put the opposing team through.

    Failing that, Phoenix Fury.

Worst thing about moving here from Columbus in '96 was giving up my Crew season tickets after waiting so long for MLS. I'm thrilled that we now have hope. Put me down for four season tickets!

I like that you are thinking outside the traditional American nicknames or (like the British) city name with FC before or after. The team name should be different than the rest of MLS.

    Phoenix Rising!

Phoenix Rising is the best so far! Figurative and hopeful - Great spirit!

On the other hand, I'm really digging Athletico Arizona, which has a melodiously ring to it. Given Arizona's large Hispanic population, the Spanish byname makes sense as well. Then, I also like AC Phoenix. The AC sounds kinda like AZ, Arizona's abriviation, which is a nice coincidence I think... However, Phoenix Rising is really way better!

    Phoenix Rising!!

The logo/shield should include a firebird, and the colors should include the "unofficial" Arizona colors of turquois, copper, sunset purple - deep purple - and sand, along with something "hot", like dark flame - the color of the Miami Heat's red uni's when they're wet.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary

Coming from a fan of a team named after a nasty tasting hype drink, there is no room to talk.

I'm all for Phoenix MLS and the Phoenix Rising supporters group, but the nickname "Rising" does nothing for me. Unless, of course, we get an Errectile Disfunction drug company as a team sponsor --then the name makes as much sense as NY Red Bull. ;)

I think Phoenix Rising is excellent.

I was also intrigued by Phoenix Fuerta, maybe switching it up to be Fuerta Phoenix. That would be my favorite of the Spanish names.

Um... I think you mean "Miners," unless you want it to be a U-14 team :D.

    Re: Phoenix Rising!

Where I come from, a "rising," or "risin'" is a gigantic zit that forms in very inaccessible places on the body (the small of the back, the back of the leg, the outside of the ankle, etc.). They throb and hurt like crazy, or so I'm told, and small towns have been wiped out when they blow (well, not really :D). Just thought you'd like to know :) .
