That game wasn't postponed because of weather on March 7 (forecast high of 48F). It was postponed because it's a World Cup venue that is installing grass, and weather in previous weeks delayed getting that grass ready for March 7. This isn't a circumstance that is going to recur in subsequent years.
Amigo, here is a screenshot from our club's website. Please take notice of where MLS HQ speaks of impending inclement weather. So all I am going by is what has been reported to us Houston fans on why our match this weekend was cancelled.
The impending inclement weather was last weekend, preventing the timely installation of the World Cup grass. It wasn't about the forecast for March 7 (48/34, 10% chance of precipitation). https://www.revolutionsoccer.net/ne...n-s-home-match-vs-houston-dynamo-fc-postponed "Due to this week’s historic winter weather in the northeast, the harvesting and delivery of the stadium’s new natural grass field has been delayed."
Yeah, looks like MLS HQ is using AI. That is a really poor interpretation they put out. The Revs took out their turf to prepare for installing a grass field for the World Cup. Then the grass got delayed by the storm, so there is no field to play on.
Yeah, it would have been a significant profile raiser for the league just to have a team in NY that is as good as LAFC is, even if the rest of it wasn't happening.
I see that this asshole has been banned, but the data he posted does actually suck for Soldier Field. The NWS stations in Chicago are at O'Hare and Midway Airports, which are 13 and 8 miles inland compared to Soldier Field, right on the shoreline. Depending on the time of year and the wind direction, the temperature difference between those locations can be as much as 20 degrees. Lake Michigan has a huge impact on the city's weather.
Not gonna lie. I put that mamaluke on ignore 3 or 4 days after he showed up. Figured I'd just beat the rush.
Still kinda crazy that we don't know. If I were a coach in the CCC would drive me nuts. Basically the regular season is about seeding but we don't know what seeding means. Do we even know how many teams qualify?
Matt Doyle has been doing a (very comprehensive) AMA on Reddit today and he had a comment that stood out to me in the context of your post: "I really like the armchair CEO stuff and look forward to doing more of it in the years to come, but treating MLS like the games matter – which, imo, some folks at the league have failed to do – is always going to be where I hang my shingle." It's hard to take MLS all that seriously when MLS itself doesn't seem to do so. Not having the playoff format publicly nailed down two weeks into the regular season is beyond bush league.
Could not agree more. Even minor-league baseball has it's post-season ready before the first pitch. Also, it feeds the conspiracy-theory folks who think it is being done to help out certain teams.
I skimmed through this and two things are apparent: He clearly thinks MLS has fumbled things the last 5 years but he doesn't want to risk his NDA/buyout by naming names...yet He's not convinced the schedule change will pay off as well as MLS is saying it will
Meanwhile at a St. Louis CITY SC front office meeting , , , "Wait. These 'goal' things. People sing about them? They make people happy? They are good things? Are we allowed to have them, too? Where can we get them?"
Wow, I just zipped through the last 5-6 pages. I haven't seen a train wreck of a thread like this in some time! Just wish I could get back all the time it took to scroll through/past all that silly arguing. Mostly about the weather?!! Along the way, I saw one post by @superdave that I kinda liked, where he talked about the culture of BigSoccer and why many noobs come here from other more hostile parts of the Interwebs and don't quite get the culture. TBF some of the long-standing posters are in that camp too. But anyway, long live BigSoccer and it's quirky, old-fashioned, self-policing culture. Even if the latter took just a tad too long in this case.
Good post. I believe that a good part of BigSoccer is that Mods generally give offenders several chances to clean up their act before the hammer comes down. Other sites are way too quick to intervene (even when it's not warranted).
Depends on how extreme they are, but yeah, we'd prefer to bring people in if they're willing to move towards the community standards.
Sprint season details: https://www.mlssoccer.com/2027sprintseason/news/2027-mls-sprint-season-what-to-know tl;dr version 14 games, all against your own conference played Feb-April Top 8 in each conference make the playoffs in May Playoffs are single-game elimination within your conference Conference champs meet for MLS Cup MLS Cup champion qualifies for 2028 CCC and Leagues Cup 5 2028 CCC berths determined by sprint season
Also this at the end (bold mine): Which suggests starting before the Super Bowl or the same weekend (Feb 13th in 2028), not later as some have suggested. (In fact, only in 2032 would the weekend after the Super Bowl still fall into anything resembling "early" February as that Saturday would be Valentine's Day)
Am I reading too much into this wording...isn't it always 5 CCC berths through league play? I guess they'll have to come up with something different other than the Supporter's Shield standings to determine some of them now (speaking of no mention of that), although the easiest/cleanest is probably top two from each conference and the MLS Cup champion.
Yes. they are just explaining how the 2028 CCC berths will be determined. Then from that point on it will be determined from the Fall-Spring league berths.
One difficulty with making it only intra-conference with 15- team conferences is that it forces two teams to be idle every matchday when they could play each other. It will force extra midweek games in an already tight calendar window.
There's already going to be midweek games. If the regular season is Feb-April, there's only 12 weekends, which means every team will need to have 3ish midweek games. Not to mention CCC midweek games, which likely means there's going to be early Feb midweek games so the CCC teams will have slots open.
