Ok, try this one on. How much should Dayne St. Clair get if Inter is at the next CWC solely due to winning MLS Cup 2025? Maybe he signed with Inter because he thinks he’s going to get a lot of money from that. What about someone who joins Inter in January 2029? What about Alba and Busquets? This is really complex!
. I guess Alba and Busquets would get a share of the participation money (though it's too late now). But St Clair signing for Miami for less than he would have made in Minnesota starts to make sense.
So…one response is you’re guessing, and the other is you saying it explains an other inexplicable transfer deal. So yes, it is, in fact, complex.
I don't see San Jose players getting a share of the 2029 CWC prize money. I don't see it being that complex. Any complexity comes from not knowing what the prize money will be. In 2025 Seattle, Miami and LAFC got $7 million each for participating. Split that 50/50 between the club and the players that qualified. In 2025 Seattle made an additional $2.6 million, LAFC $3.6 million and Miami $16.1 million for their performances. Split those 50/50 between each the teams and the players that took part. How you divide it between the players is the detailed part.
They can only get to the CWC by winning CCC, not MLS Cup. Teams that win CCC now get five million in prize money and the team will receive 9.5 million for qualifying for the CWC. Unless they expand the CWC CONCACAF only gets four slots guaranteed unless the country host in 2029. . I believe the CBA set the limit for tournaments at 1 million for players but that was before Leagues Cup and the CWC upped prize money for the new formats. Wasn't that the problem going into last years tournament as Seattle won CCL before the new format with huge payouts for CWC? They basically didn't get the 5 million from CCL and Only a million was the max they could get for CWC even though there was a payout for wins, ties and advancing out of group.
Miami represented the host country of the US. LAFC got in on a technicality because two winners of the CCL had the same ownership group, Pachuca & Leon. With Leon disqualified, Club America played LAFC the Runner ups from CCL in a one off match. https://www.cbssports.com/soccer/ne... and America, maintain its current three teams.
1. Closed shops are illegal under US federal law, I assume you mean union shop. 2. They operate in multiple right to work states including Texas and Florida.
Host country gets a spot which was awarded to Inter Miami. LAFC was a special circumstance which I'm pretty sure won't be repeated ever again in a CWC. That was all on Pachuca/Leon ownership.
Actually, I think it will be repeated everywhere in the future. The game was basically for about ten million, winner take all match. I could see them expanding the CWC in the future and CONCACAF getting six spots in the tournament. One of the easiest ways to decide the two spots could be a CCC runner up tournament as long as one team hasn't punched a ticket already or maybe even involve CONMEBOL for more spots in the hemisphere.
I say it was a one time deal because Leon and Pachuca have the same owner and both teams won CCC. Since they have the same owner they couldn't compete at the CWC. Only one team had to go as per FIFA. I'm sure Pachuca/Leon fixed that already just in case it happens again and they won't have to "choose" next time. I don't see that happening again anytime soon or ever.
Exactly and this is why the Messi playing in Copa Libertadores won't happen. Unless they expand the CWC, there is just too much money involved. Winning CCC is more or less 14.5 million with the prize money for CCC and the ticket to CWC combined. With just four spots for CONCACAF and six for CONMEBOL, getting there would be more important than just playing with no ticket possible for winning Cop Libertadores.
Every player that lines up MLS, the Open Cup, Leagues Cup and Canadian Championship now knows that success could could lead to them playing against the best in the world.
A difficult task for MLS since for ever. They also don't do themselves any favors with the rules they have had.
That's how I see everything going forward to grow the game here in the future. If USL D1 happens, The US Open Cup for those first few years turns into a rivalry with a ticket to CCC that becomes a bigger deal. everything will have a synergy leading to the CWC and makes all the tournaments more relevant,
USL doesn't have the funds and financial backing to compete against Liga MX. They might win a USOC but not CCC. MLS has had trouble winning it despite how much they spend, USL spending $2-3M on their entire roster has no shot. When they start spending like Liga MX without any roster restrictions like MLS then they'll have a shot. But that is not going happen.
This is Rochester Raging Rhinos erasure! (Though if you're making the case the Rapids offense didn't participate that day, I would agree)
