Really entertaining El Trafico today. I'm surprised the Galaxy have been so bad this year, since they have what to me looks like a pretty talented team. They really could have beat LAFC today. Greg Vanney should be a bit worried for his job.

Putting this here, because I'm not sure where else to put it. Speculation picking up that Buksa is coming back to MLS.

What is the mechanism for his allocation to a team if that were to happen?

I've seen Twellman mention this. He is usually in the know.

The Revs got a transfer fee, which meant giving up his MLS rights. In the past, he would have been subject to Allocation Order, but that method was retired last year. I don't believe you can file a Discovery Claim on a player who has already played in MLS, so my guess is it's first come, first serve for Buksa.

It would kill me to see him in a non-Revs MLS kit. I'd trade Vrioni and Wood for his rights. I'd throw in Altidore, but that would decrease the value of the package...

I'd guess that we have some percentage of a sell-on fee, in which case it would be sweet to have another MLS team send us funds.

I don't think there's a "right of first refusal" clause or anything like that, but when Dempsey came back to MLS, the Revs were asked if they wanted him (i.e., would pay his asking price) before other teams got in on it.

Of course, Mike Burns was like, "Nah, what do we need a guy like him for? And for that kind of money? Where would we play him anyway?"

It would most likely mean dumping a DP.

Or buying a DP down with TAM/GAM?

Well, they could do that - but it would mean they'd be pouring a huge amount of money into a position where only one guy is likely to play. The combined cost of Vrioni-Altidore-Buksa would probably be as much as the rest of the squad or close to it. I don't think that's good salary management.

They acquired Vrioni, they need to give him the opportunity to succeed and show some faith in the process that identified and acquired him. IMO.

I agree, there isn't room for all of them. And the roster is full at 30 (not even including Maciel who is exempt while on IR).

I still think Vrioni will find his groove and start scoring in bunches, but it's a tough wait because we KNOW what Buksa can do here.

None of the revs 3 current DPs are eligible to be bought down with TAM or GAM. That option only applies to players making less than $1.65M. Vrioni comes in just above the threshold at $1.757M, Bou and Gil both make north of $3M.

I know the 11yanks guys would really like to see DeJuan get a chance at left-back to see if he could be the backup to Dest. But US Soccer is utterly incompetent and full of nepotism That organization is run so badly that it would make Burns and Heaps look like Epstein and Francona by comparison.

Dest played LB in the mexico friendly, but in full strength games Antonee Robinson is the current starter. After than is some combo or Dest (our starting RB) and Joe Scally (plays both sides for BMG).

So at best Jones would be the 4th LB choice

I don't know anything about him other than the online profiles, but I love that we've finally gone outside the 'bubble' of US Soccer. Sounds like he's got a very impressive record of setting up and delivering a development system - which is sorely needed. OTOH, I'm a little wary of doing it the British way, having seen a lot of that around NE with all the Brit soccer camps/clubs and going back to the John Smith era.

Seriously, they need to get outside the USSF establishment bubble. This last episode was beyond embarrassing. And it's not like a sport like hurley or Aussie rules football where there is a very limited people who are at the top level of the sport, the potential pool is worldwide.

I hear you about the Brit-centric mindset that was very common at the time. We could try the German way, I mean they have a pretty good system and a very strong domestic league. Maybe we should get a guy who was a big star for the national team in the 90s, a guy who knows how to put the ball in the back of the net.

    What's that? Oh... never mind

Philly hosts LAFC tonight in the first leg of the CCL semifinal. Tigres won their first leg at home 2-1 over Leon yesterday.

I'm guilty. I hosted a British soccer camp back in the '90s. I've learned from my mistakes. When I lived in Raleigh I had a friend and rival coach who was English. I use to tell him, I don't know why we try to copy the English, you guys suck! We need to learn some Portuguese and copy the Brazilians.

But on a hopefully positive note, they did clean out the old boys' network that dominated US Soccer. Let's hope the new guy can pick a coach that can coach. Because in MHO, if you don't know that Berhalter couldn't coach, then the US isn't going anywhere at the international level.
