Here is my fav comparison Since 2016, PV has not made the playoffs 3 times, and has never made it to the final Schmetzer has not made the playoffs 1 time and has been to the final 4 times and won it twice
And this seems like a sound decision that will lead to years of success https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/san-jose-earthquakes-name-bruce-arena-head-coach-sporting-director
It's interesting that after being the only coach doing the dual role last year, PV is now one of 3 for next year with Arena and Berhalter.
This sounds super familiar after the Illig article this summer. Edit: So I can't link to Twitter right now for some reason, or add a picture, if you want to see it copy and remove the spaces below. x.com /Kevin_Kinkead /status/ 1854616640173773282 For those that don't, here's the verbiage of the tweet: RE: Jim Curtin, going back through text messages with sources - -always been a generic frustration with ownership's lack of spending -2021 winter transfer window was brought up (lost Aaronson and McKenzie, Gazdag didn't sign till May) -"winning justified less spending"
hopefully this site is killing any link with xitter. people need to stop using it completely. ******** leon and his maga turds.
MLS Cup playoffs are just dumb. First, almost every team gets in, then play-in games, then 3 leg series, then a break just long enough the I forget they exist, THEN SINGLE ELIMINATION MATCHES? What a meaningless disaster MLS Cup has become.
I know the number of matches was low, but damn if the single elimination sprint between international breaks from a few years ago wasn't the best we'll ever have. Agreed, the current format is arguably the worst I can recall in MLS history.
It's unfortunate but when people who love soccer and love MLS don't know what the format is between series, and frankly lost interest due to the long international break, you have to wonder who is watching.
The Athletic was suggesting back to group stages for the playoffs. The reason is it's more fair. What's most fair is the entire season determining the champion, but if we're gonna to playoffs, in a time of League's Cup, why not 1. make leagues cup the stand in for the playoffs, and crown season long champs (one per conference. Hell, toss in a champ-off) or two, nuttin' but single elimination.
You disagree with "The Athletic"? Bit harsh. I get that. The entire reason I offer League's Cup is becuase I think a round-robin is again way too many games. and I don't think it actually deals with "the problem" which to me is not a problem. It's not about being fair, or determing the best team, playoffs are about producing a winner in a tense situation.
I just think too many games and he's 37, and he's 37, and he's 36 and he's 35 (and we all know who the only "he's" they care about are) are not a good match. It's almost as if by the time playoffs roll around, he needs a nap.
It can't be good for any of the players (let alone the aging mega stars) to have such a long season with hardly any off season to rest and recoup.
Regardless of the number of games played, the current format is idiotic. No precedent for this anywhere in international futbol, does not make sense from a competition standpoint, isn't like any other American playoffs. The Don FAFO and got a total disaster of a postseason that no one outside of the most diehard of MLS supporters gives two $hits about.
Sounds like we're getting changes to the cash grab cup next year. 1861796024752407014 is not a valid tweet id
The "we're also out of Leagues Cup" is interesting. Are they making a cut at the previous year's playoff line, so it's 18 and 18? Also, the roster numbers he's talking about are below current roster limit numbers, or is that an increase in senior roster numbers? From 18 to 20 up to 25 to 27? Can't do that without a substantial (ish) increase in the cap, of course. Or is this a Philly only thing?
MLS conference championship games are tonight. I would like to see the numbers of people who are actually watching the games, especially since Columbus and especially Miami are out. I just about forgot about the playoffs since I have been glued to European and international games.
I listened to the games while I played Valheim, trying to figure out the Ashlands boss. Keeps me in the loop and I can pause the game if it sounds like something interesting is happening and I can switch over. Both games were kind of meh in my opinion as I spent most of my time in Valheim. Hopefully the final will be more exciting.
I guess you can move Reus into that role, but it isn't the same. Puig owns games. I wonder, does his absense, the control he exerts, esp in a game like this, make Red Bull the favorite? Lot of really good attacking players, but their entire game revolves around him
I think LA are still favorites, based on the absolute shock I've heard from every NY fan so far that they're even in the final. Gonna be a closer and probably less beautiful game. Puig is so much fun to watch, nothing but envy here.
