They aren't called the Chicago Dumpster Fire for no reason. I'm just afraid of what nicknames SKC will have now that we're emulating them results wise. Sputtering KC Sharting KC ?
phew! now we can fire vermes and not have to worry about our brilliant owners hiring berhalter and trumpeting it as a big move and step forward. i did not want that limp bag of garbage on our sidelines. now ... can we get rid of our current angry, egotistical bag of garbage before i lose the last 10% of interest i have in this team?
Not necessarily a problem. Pep is a system guy. Kloop is a system guy, Arteta, etc and The Red Bull guys are all that way. The new new triend, Huertzeler isn't. Our problem isn't that Vermes is system guy, it's that he's landed on a system SKC cannot even potentially succeed with. It's a system that works when you are able to chose the high end players you need for your system. We've been trying to play a system that demands top level players in every spot with not a single elite level player.
System coaches are successful ONLY when the get players that fit their system. Works great for elite clubs with limitless budget. No so great in all other situations.
SKC dominating the U22 list... https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/2024-22-under-22-presented-by-bodyarmor-rankings
Miami started more on the list in the game here (3 plus 1 off the bench), than KC currently has on their roster (1, Vargas).
Well, yeah, but all those Inter Miami players only got listed ahead of SKC players because they're better.
As this is not skc land, we should note that the players on this list tend to play for managers who see value in what youth can bring, increased energy levels, optimism, being able to stay up past 10 without thinking, I wish i was in bed. Where we've seen the greatest pay off in that thinking is with national teams, which as we know are not really teams, but groups of people told to run a lot. There are MLS clubs managed by people who do not value youth, and in all instances chose experience. A 34 year old is always preferable to a 23 year old, because older and, perhaps, that manager feels his playing career was cut short when he aged and was undervalued. The problem with this thinking is that older players tend to be injured more often, can't go full at it as often, and really only offer advantages in the right system, a system that takes advantage of what they offer. the classic example of a manager who valued high quality older players in club play but got a lot out of them was Bruce, of course. Others haven't been as succcessful, but others haven't had the level of old talent. Managers such as Tata, of course, understand that you need both, high end experience and low age legs.
Or, as it was stated in an MLS site piece today: "For all the sky-high soccer IQ and transcendent quality Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba carry, they would need energy, work rate and youthful vibrance around them if this ambitious Miami project was to truly take off. “We knew we needed to bring in some legs,” Miami’s chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson explained to MLSsoccer.com last week. “That was one of our goals in recruiting the young players – how do they balance off each other? What attributes will they add to the rest of the group?" Managers who value only the experience side of things are making a mistake.
An interesting tidbit in this last week of the season: clubs are re-signing their good players for next season. This is the sort of thing that can happen when you have a coach and a Director of Soccer as two different people.
Counter point, there aren't any people out of contract that I'd 100% want re-signed right now. Counter point 2, for players under contract, they re-signed Davis early this season to a new contract so it's not like KC hasn't done it.
So if the Whitecaps finish 8th in the West they won't get to host the play in game because BC Place is booked up and they won't be able to host so the 9th seed will get to host. I now want Vancouver to make MLS Cup and get to host because BC Place is booked MLS Cup weekend with the Eras Tour and I just want to watch it all burn.
There was completely baseless speculation from a Montreal hockey writer about Montreal relocating to Detroit on Reddit yesterday or the day before, I assume that's what he's referring to. Edit: It was actually today... https://www.reddit.com/r/MLS/comments/1gfqmj6/quebec_journalist_claims_its_over_for_cf_montreal/
The gap between PV and the next most tenured coach in the league grows. It's now Schmetzer in 2016. 1854549076278186398 is not a valid tweet id
So top three active, as of pre firing: : W-Lo-draw 170-90-134 Curtain (1 supporters shield, 2x coach of the year) 251-210-139 Vermes (1 MLS Cup, 3 USOC) 150-70-102 Schmetzer (2 MLS Cups, 1 CCL cups) . No comment, really, just interesting.
On a points per game basis: Curtain has 1.63. Schmetzer has 1.71, Vermes has 1.49 over their careers, For 2024, Vermes came in a .91. Curtain was fired for 1.1. Schmetzer took heat for 1.68
