I’m watching FC Cincy vs Miami. What a great game with some of the best offensive attacking I’ve seen out of MLS teams. There is not one SKC player that could make the starting 11 on either of those teams. PV will need more than 3 windows to catch up with where those teams are now.
Unfortunately, the second half turned into a shit show with Penso giving out yellow cards like candy and red carding Busquets out of the game.
Really interesting piece in the Athletic about Right to Dream and their newest club, San Diego. I think we're going to envy the model.
Indeed, there was lots of exciting futbol last night. The LAFC v San Jose game was the only one I did not watch any of. Was a bit aghast when I tuned in to the Club America v St Louis game and STL was 2 to 1 up but Club America found that extra gear and scored 3 in the final 20 min.
Yeah, I was trying to root for St Louis to hold on, but f that. I enjoyed Club America being Club America
so, this is interesting. To misquote King George in Hamilton, "I didn't know that was something people could do."
I mean mutual termination (something KC has regularly used) isn't a buyout which presumably is what we'd need to use here. Shaqiri wanted to return to Europe.
Do you think that with a player of that profile, mutual agreement means no money? I was thinking it was probably more like half of what they owe, at least as a starting point in negotiations.
I don't know for certain, but the fact that Shaqiri's contract expired at the end of the season (vs 2026 for no DP/SKC related reason) probably makes it easier to terminate the contract and still agree to finish out paying his contract as part of the agreement.
I can make a compelling argument for Shaqiri being the worst MLS whatever iteration we are in DP signing. What an absolute waste of space.
He's certainly up there, especially given the level he showed when he played with Switzerland (which imo puts him higher on those lists than the likes of Jeferson, Denilson, etc who did absolutely nothing outside after MLS).
So, yesterday, I was at the grocers in the area near our house (on the lip of berlin, the apartment is central, but getting too old for central). Two kids, maybe 12 or so, walking through the parking lot in Inter Miami jerseys. Last evening, walking the local news as they're doing vox pop. Again, Inter Miami jerseys. I think they're authentic, the pink one and the black one. They aren't wearing Bmunch. They aren't wearing BDort, or ManU or PSG or Real Madrid. Inter Miami. I know, it doesn't mean much long term, but at this point, Messi has done crazy things for league visability
Watching one of the least interesting of the MLS games yesterday. San Jose v Vancouver, and had a realization/thought: If Daniel didn't miss, what, six months, this season with injury, SKC and StL are battling it out with New England for the wooden spoon. San Jose wouldn't be playoff good, but I have to think he is worth 15 points a season. That said, while our rebuild be built on the foundation of maybe 5 players, their's is more like 2. And StL seems to think they've got their roster in place with their summer signings. Still mediocre MLS side, though
The Club World Cup is coming to the USA. 7 MLS stadiums get picked, but not the so called “Soccer Capital of America.”
They’re now 3 goals away from allowing the most goals in a single season in MLS history. A healthy Daniel doesn’t fix that to the extent of closing that gap.
The Fire saw PV as the only remaining coach overseeing everything for a team and said "we gotta have that." https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5828229/2024/10/08/gregg-berhalter-chicago-fire-coach-usmnt/
