We'll see. MLS does punish teams for having players that are good enough to represent their national team. Not something SKC have to worry about. Maybe that is PVs roster building strategy? Currently Miami are not playing Campana much. He can rotate in for Suarez during the summer. Messi doesn't wear down because he walks more than anyone. They will need to rotate the squad more than they currently do, but I'm not convinced they will wilt in the summer heat.
I mean, its 4D chess stuff. Get players that aren't good enough to get called into their national team so that your team is at full strength during FIFA windows, which MLS ignores. This alone merits another 5 year contract extension.
Who does this kid think he is anyway, Freddy Adu? https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/cavan-sullivan-philadelphia-union-sign-14-year-old-homegrown-star
This is pretty funny, especially when he $hits all over Houston. Amazing! #USOC2024 "Up yours, Houston" is a sentiment every #SportingKC fan can get behind. https://t.co/xL4lKiR0KE— Chad Smith (@PlayFor90) May 13, 2024
Not going to keep the New England discussion in the Austin game thread, but New England is a disaster whether any of this is accurate or not. I would really appreciate my name not be associated with things that are not true. https://t.co/DYhqbGUQDH— Mark-Anthony Kaye (@MarkThEwizz) May 20, 2024
Even their disasters are disasters. That is a mess. Owner searching for coach who is hiding, players fighting in the lockerroom but saying they aren't. Obviously, this wouldn't happen at SKC. Owners at the game and caring enough to seek out the manager? That said, Vermes would have mapped out the best hiding spots. they'd never find him
Apparently Columbus is taking a page out of SKC's book for the CCL. Hopefully it works out better for them in the long run. The CONCACAF Champions Cup Final will be played in Pachuca which is 8000 feet above sea level (Columbus is 800), quite the home field advantage. The Crew are already preparing their bodies, they are sleeping in altitude tents and working out in altitude masks. #Crew96 pic.twitter.com/kxuKV2vOvU— Adam King (@AdamKing10TV) May 29, 2024
Maybe they got their altitude gear cheap from us. To be fair, short term it worked pretty well. that moment in the second half, when we were getting ole-ed by their fans as we passed their team off the field was a good moment. True,.it was their worst side in a long time, but still...
This is a good approach. Midseason, already fit, and only trying to acclimate the body to elevation. The alternative would be fly in day of, so the body does not have time to adjust. SKCs issue was the preseason camp at altitude and doing all of this work at the front end of a season. It's like their physios had never read a book on periodization training (they should read cycling/running for dummies). You can't hold peak fitness for long, and if you don't have solid base fitness (what preseason is for) the body will collapse late season after it was frontend loaded. No longer an issue now that we have moved onto Hamstring FC
WTF! How does this kind of thing happen with other teams? They and other teams are bringing in players of this caliber while SKC seems to be shopping at the local GoodWill store for their players. I am so ready for a roster makeover, but not if they keep looking under rocks to find players. French CB Raphaël Varane is being linked with a move to Inter Miami according to @arielsenosiain . Miami are in the market for a CB so this would make sense but can they afford it? pic.twitter.com/PPwbgw9Xqz— MLS Moves (@MLSMoves) June 12, 2024
I mean 1) I take anything that account says with a grain of salt. 2) Miami is linked with anyone and anyone regardless of their roster standing b/c of agent talk. 3) They do have the replacement player spot for Freire's season ending injury that opens up $1m in guaranteed compensation (over a half a season as well so it's even less).
I've seen them play this year and wasn't all that aware they even had one. If they improve their performance this season with a new manager, that puts us in truly prime Spoon position.
Another coach gone, Carnell out in St. Louis. I feel like there's a middle ground between where SKC is at with PV and St. Louis. St. Louis greatly over exceeded expectations and all underlying numbers last year and didn't really improve their roster for this year.
Objectively, StL got lucky last year. They literally had teams passing the ball to them over and over to setup goals. Their hair on fire garbage soccer style worked, until it didn't. Carnell based their team identity three principals: 1) running around like idiots, 2) fouling a lot, and 3) a great keeper that punts the ball far on restarts. At some point, garbage soccer, implemented by the coach, caught up to them. This year teams are no longer passing them them ball so they can tap it in for a goal. Absent gifts, they have no strategy. I would hope that someone in their organization was smart enough to see that "rock and roll" soccer is stupid and only works in high school. You can't use SKC and PV to establish any kind of objective middle ground for football managers. He is literally within the top 10 longest tenured manages IN THE WORLD. SKC are the outlier, where if you suck for 3 years, you get 3 transfer windows to rebuild. The norm is much more in line with StL. If you suck for a prolonged period, then you get fired. Congrats to our neighbors to the east for finally admitting that you play garbage soccer coached by a garbage coach. Your city is still a $hit hole.
Confirmation that SKC have zero All Stars to add to their zero players that were called up for Euros/Copa America. https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/2024-mls-all-star-team-roster Zero + zero = zero. Zero quality on the roster.
