Pretty solid game by the Townies, who are now tied for 5th with Vancouver, the team they just beat and who looked pretty bad today. They didn't seem to play with any fight. The team tried to give Cruz Medina a goal but he hit a not so great PK that was saved. 2 goals for Aaron Edwards and he was pretty close to getting a hattie. Richmond rejoined the lineup and promptly had 2 assists by the 32nd minute. Verhoeven started and didn't have a very good game by his standards. He may be rusty from sitting on the bench with the 1st team. Only thing that worries me a little about him is his speed. It's not bad but not great either. He struggles sometimes to stay with the faster wingers.
That PK was pretty sad. The second half got so snoozy that the announcers started talking about the Colorado-Salt Lake game instead, hoping (it seemed) that this game would become exciting too, but by then Town was in bunker mode.
Kind of shocking how little of a challenge Vancouver offered. And that was a team that hadn't lost in 8 or 9 games or something??
I don't know if those were their regular starters, but they never seemed threatening. A few times they had the ball, and I thought...well, maybe? But then they'd do something inept and the ball would be back with our guys.
Technically I think Richmond only had 1 assist - Edwards' 2nd goal came off a rebound from his own shot, which was initially assisted by a Richmond cross. There was another goal that was disallowed in strange fashion, where the ref played advantage on a Caps foul in transition, TTFC played a through ball (which appeared possibly offside) and eventually scored. The referee didn't give offside until the Caps players protested, which is odd in a non-VAR game where "delayed offside" is usually not a thing.
Yeah you’re right, that one Edwards goal took 2 Edwards shots, one after a keeper parry. But it was the Richmond-Edwards connection that made the goals. Who scored the offside goal? I only watched the 2nd half.
It was and he was legit offsides by a step or two. Edwards had a header off a corner that was saved on the goal line or he would have had a hat trick. If The Town FC had a quality hold up 9 they could be one of the very best teams in Next Pro. The defense is a well oiled machine that really limits chances.
Thanks for the explanation of the offside goal. We were not paying close enough attention and suddenly saw the goal disappear from the scoreboard. Good thing that it ultimately didn't matter.
