There is a new youngest player to make a match day squad, last night Real Monarchs had '08 GK William Mackay on their bench.
I am sure we will see flashy press releases from RSL touting this fact. While I respect that RSL is using MLS Next Pro to develop younger players in general (one of the few clubs to actually get the memo that this is what this league was supposed to be about), the competition/hype about which club plays the youngest player at MLS Next Pro is absurd.
I agree, but I think in this situation they just have that many GK’s unavailable right now for the pros and academy. I don’t think the plan behind this is that he’s going to play soon for the Next Pro team. He’s barely gotten any games for the U-15’s.

03* unfortunately you can’t hear my reaction in the staff seats below the camera on this but the video angle didn’t do the shot justice at all, what a screamer

Nice flick for the assist by St. Louis City '03 Karson Gibbs. https://www.mlsnextpro.com/competitions/mls-next-pro/2022/matches/chivsstl-06-11-2022/
Combination between Selmir Miscic (‘03), Dylan Akau (‘03), and Jamin Peters (‘02) leads to a goal. https://t.co/W7ii41Utkh— USMNTProspects (@ProspectsUsmnt) June 12, 2022
Gibbs had two assists. This is the other one. Dolling wins the 1v1 for the third! 💪 @stlCITYsc 3-0! pic.twitter.com/sG2KGyanKh— MLS NEXT Pro (@MLSNEXTPRO) June 12, 2022
That was a John Stockton assist. The goal scorer had everything to do. Not good for Fire II shipping 9 goals against in the last 3 halves of action. There's a first XI unavailable due to injuries, national team callups, and first team commitments. It doesn't help playing against teams of older more experienced players like Columbus and St. Louis with college freshmen and academy kids. It's all about development, though.
Assist from Cody Baker (‘04). Vargas sneaks it in from a tight angle for @TACdefiance!👏1-1! pic.twitter.com/4OPtBjIvUj— MLS NEXT Pro (@MLSNEXTPRO) June 12, 2022
Axel Kei (‘07) scored a goal against the Rapids first team. Rapids are using Next Pro as a scrimmage league for their first team during the international break. There’s no video available of the goal right now.
Don't worry everyone! We got it!! pic.twitter.com/fPZ0dmKlaI— Real Monarchs (@RealMonarchs) June 13, 2022
Kei's goal was on a pretty hopeless ball over the top, where he had to do all the work and create the chance all by himself. It was the only shot the Monarchs registered all game. Extremely impressive goal, beating Abubakar and Irwin who have 250+ MLS appearances between them. Gavin Beavers had a strong game too - understandably had quite a lot of work to do against a first-choice Rapids team and had at least 2 point-blank saves that I noticed. Wasn't at fault on any of the 3 goals that I remember.
This kid is actually pretty good. I was watching him play thinking he was Rinker, and noted it was a good performance for Rinker. Given he’s an ‘08 that has gotten some recent games playing up an age group, he’s doing well.
We're so excited for MLS NEXT Pro matches to be carried on @AppleTV, starting in 2023 Details 👇 https://t.co/CwocCUtLi6— MLS NEXT Pro (@MLSNEXTPRO) June 16, 2022

FC Cincinnati 2 signed '02 Mario Penagos on loan from Sacramento Republic of USLC and an '03 attacker by the name of Ousman Touray from Maryland.
