Our logo has a wiener. Anyway, it looks like something I could have put together in PS in about an hour...and I mean that as neither a compliment nor an insult. It's very simple.
Goes against the entire premise or re-coloring it for the teams really, though does Portland have a red colored logo they use?
Here is another idea. Each star represents a team. 20 stars assuming 20 teams next year. 3 red stars for Canadian teams. Every time another team is added a star gets added and stars get realigned...ala stars for states on US flag. Basically the white space has to have something in it. P.S. I was too lazy to align the stars perfectly. I know they are not evenly dispersed.
Portland is a little unusual in that they have different colored logos for their different colored shirts. Most teams do not.
We are very familiar with marketing speak. This is very overboard though. If the logo isn't somewhat self explanatory then you failed.
That made the logo a 1000x better for me. If they had added those stars I would still be in bed dreaming about all the logo snubs sucking it when they see our new logo...
The fact that people are posting mockups that look better than the final product the league spent thousands of dollars on is sad.
How old are you? That isn't meant as a knock btw, but a legitimate question.. Everything you just described isn't new or revolutionary.. It doesn't take a marketing genius to use a split in a logo and think they can display video in one or both the halves.. The NFL and NBA have both done this since they got their modern logos. They just haven't used it fir a long time because it stopped being "fresh" and "new".
probably millions if they really used 3 marketing firms. You have to count salaries/time spent by MLS employees too.
I don't think the submitted BS mockups look better. They look good. But imo, the league's version still looks "better" than anything shared here. I can see why the league made a lot of choices they did with their new crest -- and likely went away from doing some other fine ideas or templates that are being offered here as "fixes." And I can completely understand that other's would/do have different views on this.
The guys who were hired to send a "consistent message" across all platforms. From a marketing perspective, it makes perfect sense. But I'm a consumer and I'm allowed to be a dick.
The poll on espnfc is 58% don't like right now. new logo = failure http://www.espnfc.us/major-league-soccer/19/index
read the articles, that's exactly what they plan on doing. Plan on seeing pictures, gifs, videos, etc. If you're up for that, then great. Me, I prefer a traditional, static league logo.
