To me what they do with the logo in image form (non moving versions of the logo, print, website, etc) is more important than how it is used for 3 seconds in an intro video. But hey if how it is used for 3 seconds is important to you and indicates strength...more power to you
Listen guys, I will admit (very begrudgingly) that the new logo has grown on me. That isn't really saying a ton, because it really didn't have anywhere to go but up with me because it was so low in my opinion when I first saw it. I still think it looks amateur and unfinished, but I am not as repulsed by it as I was on day one. I am sure after 5 years I won't even think about it. I know no one really cares about my opinion on it, but for some reason (unfortunately for you all) I feel bound to tell you. I guess that is what a message board is all about.
They've only been officially using the new logo for what, two weeks? I would be very surprised if we didn't see official uses of that blank area.
With the new logo, it's not about what it is, but what it *can* be. On its own it's very simple, no question. But it is going to be (already has been) manipulated and modified like; people are going to make it their own. The fact that this has been encouraged by MLS is going to make these same people connect with the league in a way that just throwing a logo out there and calling it a day would never accomplish.
Like I said earlier, I don't think MLS is going to do a ton of stuff with the new logo beyond color changes and for a few special events like the All-Star Game and the MLS Cup. I could be wrong but we'll have to wait and see. I think the emphasis is for the community and fans to do the special art work. I'll submit mine: A lot more potential then the old MLS logo, that is for sure. Still hate the kickstand but I can deal with it.
The 2015 MLS logo was clearly designed in close concert with ESPN. All of ESPN's/SC's graphical treatments and videos and images are using the "slash" motif in recent weeks/months.
Well now @joehooligan0303 here is an official picture from MLS of the logo being used for just such as thing.
I love the idea of the awards having silhouettes in the empty space like this. I also like naming awards like they do in the NHL.
It's obviously supposed to look like LD, my point is that it actually does look like him to me. Also I'm from Indiana, you don't have to tell me who's silhouette is used in the NBA logo, but I also never saw Jerry West play.
I think the real question is: Is he coming toward you kicking it with his right, or going away kicking it with his left? Inquiring minds want to know.
They probably just used a silhouette of LD. Why wouldn't they? There are plenty of photos/images of him to find a good one from.
Yeah, one thing that may be odd is if this has a sponsor, will it be Landon Donovan MVP Award Presented by Volkswagon or the Volkswagon Landon Donovan MVP Award? Personally I'd remove MVP from it and just call it the Donovan Trophy awarded to the best player.
Well, those Microsoft Surface commercials that ran about every 90 seconds over the holidays made a kickstand seem like the greatest thing since sliced cheese, so maybe MLS has something there... ------RM
