MLS announces the 20th expansion franchise NYCFC www.nycfc.com Owned by Man City and the Yankee's. Welcome to the league, we hate you already!
Heh. My brain saw NYCFC and immediately tried to pronounce it "nick-f*ck" So.. welcome to the league you "nick-F*ck"ers.. may you never win a game.
They haven't played a game yet, but the universal reaction seems to be "Go away, we hate you." This is awesome.
Hope the Krafts are smart enough to generate hate among the fans of the Sox AND soccer in general. I feel like there's some sort of opportunity here for them.
Wow. Didn't see this one coming. Poor Cosmos fans! Boo hoo. Great to have another rivalry on the East Coast. Hope they can get a decent stadium deal done asap. At least KSG won't let fans start a City Sucks chant! So tired of the Yankees Suck chant. Stop expansion NOW at least for awhile for the level of play to improve and stabilize.
Does MLS "have to" or does he just have first right of refusal? Not sure of the exact contract wording. I just thought he had an option to buy in at a discounted rate.
This explains the lineup the Yankees have been putting out there this season. I hope the MCFC owner talks about expanding their brand non-stop to feed my vitriol.
Personally, I think 24 is the goal. Two games in conference, one against non-conference for a 34 game season makes a lot of sense from a competition standpoint. Plus, two more markets for national coverage. Yeah, that's the issue I have even now. In regards to the quality of play.
They announced this without the stadium deal completed? Unless they play at Citi Field, ready the Hofstra groundshare. Edit: I bet they use their deep pockets to make some permanent improvements to Ichan Stadium and put temporary bleachers on the endlines. Maybe some select games at Yankee Stadium. Still hilarious the stadium deal isn't done before they get a team.
Hate to say it, but if I were a betting man... FYP... "NYCFC will win the MLS cup in their new stadium before the Revs. Bob Kraft sucks!!!"
It already bugs me that they'll get to pick through other team's rosters in an expansion draft and then turn around and dump millions signing world stars. And this will probably turn the red bulls into the NJ Nets of MLS.
No way they wouldn't take money from the Yankees? The Mets said they wouldn't mind hosting a MLS team there.
It isn't like 2006 where some teams lost three players. They will get a team's worth of worst starters from nineteen teams. In today's MLS, you go out and find your core players elsewhere. And I'm hoping New York City City FC find crappy ones.
