Halftime scores: Jamaica 1, Trinidad & Tobago 0 Curacao 2, Bermuda 2 Jamaica took the lead 5 minutes after Trinidad had a goal disallowed on an offside call following a VAR check. Bermuda scored twice in a 7-minute span to knot the score after Curacao scored twice in the first 26 minutes. Curacao were stoned twice by the Bermuda keeper on point blank shots in front of goal prior to halftime.
Colombia 2 weeks ago were almost out of world cup. After games against Bolivia and Venezuela we qualified 3rd. Today's game was a 6-3 barn burner. Brazil is 5th. There is 1 point difference between 2nd and 5th. Conmebol is nuts.
Group B in CONCACAF is done for September. Jamaica scored early in the second half to beat Trinidad & Tobago, 2-0. Curacao scored its winning goal in the 75th minute to fend off Bermuda, 3-2. Jamaica 6 pts. Curacao 4 pts. Trinidad & Tobago 1 pt. Bermuda 0 pts. October 10 JAM at CUW TRI at BER October 14 BER at JAM TRI at CUW Bolivia's upset of Brazil sends them the Intercontinental Playoffs next March. Bolivia edged Venezuela 20-18 on points following Venezuela's home loss to Colombia. Venezuela remain the only CONMEBOL team to never have played in a World Cup. Hundreds of fans stormed the field in Praia after Cape Verde Islands stunned Cameroon, 1-0. CPV lead CMR on points, 19-15 with two matches to play. Just one more win next month will see Cape Verde make its first-ever World Cup appearance.
2-0 win, solid and professional. So the consensus in the other forum was stupid waste of time on Japans Z team.
I sat with Bolivian fans in Chicago in 1994, and man was it infectious to be with them. And in one of my all-time favorite sports memories, I was listening to Chicago sports radio several weeks before the World Cup as the Bulls were going to meet the Knicks in the NBA Playoffs and the station sent a reporter to drive around the Five Boroughs and interview fans about the series. But in a truly delightful quirk of fate, the cab driver he hired at the airport was originally from Bolivia and he was so, so excited to talk to a reporter from Chicago. He was hired for the day and called all over the place so every time the reporter stopped at a certain venue for an interview, Bolivians were already there chanting BO - LIV - IYA! loudly in the background. It was amazing. So I will root for them in the playoffs.
Wild stuff in Costa Rica as the Ticos scored in stoppage to tie Haiti at 3-3. Haiti only led for about five minutes; five to go for one of them to find a winner. The Haitian forward Duckens Nazon has a hat trick and just blown into the box again. He's a force.
CONCACAF Group C is finished for September. Honduras 4 pts. Costa Rica 2 pts. (4 goals scored) Haiti 2 pts. (3 goals scored) Nicaragua 1 pt. October 9 CRC at HON HAI at NCA October 13 NCA at CRC HAI at HON If qualification for the World Cup ended today, the 3 CONCACAF sides to join USA, Mexico, and Canada next year would be: Honduras, Jamaica, and Suriname. El Salvador and Curacao would advance to the Intercontinental Playoffs in March. How many saw this coming when the draw for the final round was announced in March? Let's see how much this changes after October's international break.
I haven't watched the full USA - Japan match but from the highlights Arfsten, the bane of the NT forums, looked outstanding. McGlynn did a lot in his time on the pitch too. Japan's chances seem to come from CB errors.

Is there an explanation for the name? I get the Jaguar, I'm just not familiar enough with Mexican culture to understand the name.
Glad to see Edson the Eagle found work after being displaced in Colorado by the glorious return of Rapidman.
It's actually Zayu, and this is from the official FIFA site (though I'm still not sure how the name connects): Zayu the Jaguar, from the jungles of southern Mexico, embodies the rich heritage and vibrant spirit of the country. With a name inspired by unity, strength and joy, Zayu transforms on the pitch as a striker, showcasing exceptional ingenuity and agility that intimidates defenders. Off the pitch, Zayu embraces Mexican culture through dance, food and tradition, uniting people across borders with passion and pride. More than an athlete, Zayu is a symbol of cultural celebration and connection, carrying the heart of Mexico with pride.
Yeah.. I was hoping for an explanation from a Mexican cultural perspective vs. whatever fluff FIFA puts up on its site. haha. Clutch and Maple have cultural references in the US and Canada.
