Yes, but he knows better because he's been part of the conversations about that here in this thread. Which means he's just trolling to get us to respond (again).
He has a valid point on this one. Some of my friends who don't follow soccer were asking me about this last night and had similar feelings.
I even explained exactly why I said what I said, but nobody bothers reading. It's the "gotcha" responses whenever crookeddy posts.
My family have traveled around the World to see games in countries I’ve either played or worked in. Last night was the first time I’ve been genuinely concerned for their safety… and it was in our country. I hope there will be accountability for those that were in charge. https://t.co/xqL5qUkagy— Stu Holden (@stuholden) July 15, 2024
Except his first post in this sub-thread today wasn't "The U.S. is getting blamed for this" or "the general fan is blaming the U.S. for this". It was "The USA just absolutely disgraced itself.". Because he knows a statement like that is going to get people here to respond pointing out that its wrong.
I blame the organizers of the event, what a shitshow, and damn, I also blame the fans, what little sense of responsibility. You don't get to see a match just because you are a fan. I hope that those who are get caught are deported or get their visas revoked
Tournament organizers changed. Or Colombia made the final. One of those. Hopefully it's the former ass we'll likely see Colombia in the world cup.
Large groups of ticketless fans trying to break into the stadium for big games seems to have become more common post-Covid. Even the alcohol-free WC in Qatar had issues with Moroccan supporters. Need a wider security perimeter (easier at some stadiums) and multiple layers of checks before they get near the stadium, but keeping big determined groups away without creating terrible bottlenecks for actual ticket holders is probably a non-trivial problem. For the CL final this year they claimed that the new security arrangements at Wembley had kept out ticketless fans but it certainly wasn't for lack of trying.
How is it even possible that Brazil didn't sellout a home final? Sure economy etc, but is their love for the game and the national team overstated? Or was there limited capacity for security reasons? Or perhaps Peru didn't sell their allotment? I also noticed the Olympic final at the Maracana is marked as only 63,707, 11k under capacity. On TV it looked PACKED. Like so packed you can't see the aisles. Not sure how these numbers are calculated. two theories are that they didn't open a stand that we never saw on TV or they didn't count the huge numbers of press/VIPs.
Doesn't look like the madness in '21 has done anything to prevent Wembley from hosting major events. Money wins out in the end.
As posted elsewhere https://www.firstpost.com/sports/co...ntity-as-brazil-crowd-stays-away-6863741.html
Thanks! Did anyone write an explanation on the announced attendance for that Olympics final? Announcers kept saying 80k, and then announced was 63k.
Ramón Jesurún, the head of the Colombian Football Federation, was arrested in the chaos at Hard Rock Stadium ahead of the Copa América Final, Miami-Dade police tells CBS Sports. He is facing three felony counts of battery on a specified official or employee pic.twitter.com/0PXBrt4jqk— Golazo America (@GolazoAmerica) July 15, 2024 Colombian fans and president had a totally normal one last night!
CONMEBOL trying to punt the blame to Hard Rock despite every report saying it was CONMEBOL's decisions. “CONMEBOL was subject to the decisions made by Hard Rock Stadium authorities, in accordance with contractual responsibilities established for security…CONMEBOL recommended to said authorities procedures tested in events of this magnitude, which were NOT taken into account.” 😳 pic.twitter.com/l6xDev3pDc— Kyle Bonn (@the_bonnfire) July 15, 2024
Head of Colombian Football Federation Ramon Jesurun & his 43yo son were arrested after Colombia’s loss to Argentina. Jesurun, who is also VP of CONMEBOL, missed the award ceremony following alleged altercation with staff. A chaotic night to the very end.pic.twitter.com/PCxFudIQMq— Men in Blazers (@MenInBlazers) July 15, 2024 Shall we also blame the head of Colombia's soccer federation's actions on Hard Rock too?
If that’s true (and I have no reason to believe the source or the reporter) then FIFA should yank all seven games and send them to Chicago, as punishment for both cities. Thx, Jay!
Again this is Relevant Sports, who are suing USSF over hosting foreign league matches in the US. This was not a great commercial for them.
To be fair that man is a blight in Colombia.. you could barely find a more corrupt man in sports. I am very happy he got arrested and I hope he stays there for a long time.
