Location/Time Gillette Stadium 7:30 EST Video Fox Sports Ohio Audio 610 WTVN Outlook A couple of weeks off to get healthy is just what the Crew needed and a patsy to re-introduce them to MLS league play is a nice way to start the summer period. Hard to say whom else the Crew will have available, but per Jardy the DP search isn't going swimmingly and Arrieta will not be available until the 27th. Given that though, RW is going to have a tough time with the lineups with Miranda, Birchall and Gaven the only autopicks. The rest of the depth chart is a crap shoot depending on fitness.
I am guessing this being posted so early because we miss our Crew and would love for them to get back into action earlier.
I hate the International calendar. Not enough soccer throughout the week. But don't worry, we will be inundated in a week with the Euro, MLS, Brasileirao in action for the next month and beyond.
My mind over the next three weeks will vary between 'NE sucks, we'll win' to 'We will play down to their level' to 'Ream will outcoach RW (which isn't difficult)'. Respectively that covers the win by 1, Draw and lose by 1 options.
I disagree about Birchall being an automatic pick. I think DOR is the better choice at DM. I don't see Birchall playing on the wings when everyone is healthy. Meram, Finlay, Duka, and Gaven and maybe Anor are ahead of him on the depth chart there.
Out for 2-4 weeks so it's around the time he could be back. I wouldn't rush him for a start but if ready, I'd bring him in to get 45-60 out of him.
What have you seen Finlay do to impress you? I've watched him run fast and hustle for that ball going over the end line. Birchall is proven and can shoot on goal. It won't take long for birchall to move up the chart. In 2008 and '09 when we had a quality first team, it was fun to see what the rookies and unprovens could do. This year, if we want any kind of sucess, we need to play our best 11 every game. Let the reserves play in the reserve league.
I've just come around to the mindset that he should be. I was not a fan of picking him up thinking we had enough depth in the midfield. However the games he has played he has shown a few things I liked. Willingness to shoot from distance (on frame) and his tracking back/hustle. Determining his best position when all are healthy will be a challenge, but I don't think you can keep him on the bench. I'd almost rather have Vargas up top, Milo play withdrawn striker with Birchall and O'Red playing behind. Although that doesn't play into Bob's formation he's playing now, the psuedo 4-3-3 with pushing Gaven to forward.
Thanks, when creating a poll, I can only say how many days after the post it stays up. So had I closed it on the 16th at 11 am, ppl would be bitching about it being before game time. I almost always over shoot by a day, expecting the moderators to close the thread at kickoff.
New England is better than people think and I expect them to play a good game, probably getting a result against us.
Agreed, I've been impressed the couple of times I've watched them, particularly with Nguyen and Sene. Nguyen looks like he's really enjoying himself and is playing with a point to prove and Sene, well he looks unplayable at times. Kinda reminds me a little of Mamadou Diallo from years ago, except that Sene works much harder and isn't petulant like Diallo was. Looking forward to this one for sure.
Revs are a lot better than last year. Miles ahead of last year. Those players mailed it in last year with Nicol. Jay Heaps seems like he has that team, despite a weaker group of talent, playing well together. Kelyn Rowe and Lee Nguyen are the real deal.
New England is 4-1-1 at home, and we're 2-2-2 away. That said, their home loss was to DC United, a team that's struggled both this season and on turf , so I think we're going to be just fine.

3-1 Revs. Crew get one from Gaven, and Revs get one from Sene, Feilhaber and Rowe, who proceeds to make an even bigger ass of himself when the cameras do another closeup on him immediately after the goal. RW makes his mark afterwards. Literally. Danny Larusso may have the Crane technique, but the Rifle resurrects the Herron technique, elbowing Heaps right in the chops after the game, in lieu of handshake. Bliss then coaches the team to a perfect June and July during Bobby's suspension.
Reminds me of a joke: when I was growing up I always thought my dad's favourite team was Bournemouth* nil. Replace Bournemouth with another team where appropriate.
