They can list this screening along with their other horror shows that week.

Seriously, who would want to go watch that? I don't think a fan of either team would want to see this, let alone someone in New York paying $12, hoping they both lose...

It would make far too much sense for them to offer those screenings at a reasonable price, in order to possibly convert new fans...

I'd love to have heard the magical pitch the MLS guy laid on the Regal Cinemas chump in order to agree to this deal..."No, really! There are TONS of people in the larger markets who'd pay $10, even $12 to see ANY teams play, especially from yards away in High Definition! And don't worry, we'll supply you with not one, but TWO matches featuring America's Team, The Colorado Rapids! The kids LOVE Tim Hankinson, and Robin Fraser is the next Mia Hamm! Plus, Phil A. said you have to do this."....

My guess would be somewhere between 4-6 tickets sold, with an announced attendance of 13,056.

I think it's a good idea. I know it's been done in Europe when HD first came out and I've been waiting for something like this to come along in the states. There has been a lot of talk lately about how the networks are losing money and how all TV will be pay TV. With the FCC mandating all stations be broadcast in HD I think you'll see more of this, especially if prices don't become more reasonable for consumers. I'd wager that other sporting events will follow soon, maybe the NFL this fall.

Those would have worked better if they did this for the last world cup.

I agree, though with 5 am kickoffs, I would've fallen asleep in those movie theater seats.

Not to bash MLS, but you just can't charge people to watch MLS games away from stadiums. As much as I love soccer, this ain't the friggin' Matrix. If they're trying to make this an informercial for the league and HDTV, it would've been much more effective if they put free passes on the web and collected demographic data.

Isn't Regal part of AEG? I think this is just an example of some good ol' fashioned synergy.

Ummm that explains my reference to Phil A in my post.

I'm sure it is. I don't think this thing is bad or wrong, just kind of ridiculous.

I agree. I think they should have charged much lower prices. I'm not sure I would pay $12 to see Hristo Stoichkov bitch at ballboys and officials in high definition.

Oh, I don't know. In my book, GOOD OLD FASHIONED SYNERGY would mean that in NYC, at least one, and probably the majority, of the matches in the HD program would feature the local team. This seems to be more like NEW FANGLED SYNERGY FOR THE SAKE OF SYNERGY WITH NO ADDITIONAL THOUGHT TO THE DETAILS.

Enjoy the Colorado - DC match and don't mind the other three guys in the theatre who are wacking off and muttering to themselves.

It's like Illusiones, only in Manhattan.

I would go once, maybe, but it's pushing it that they are jacking me for $ 12 when for $ 49 I can get almost every MLS match played all season long. Whatever.

So, who's in for the San Jose @ LA game?

I can't watch DC when they are playing Metro, much less another team, and Colorado/Columbus...uggh.
