heres where i see mls when Project 2010 takes effect(in case u dont know what that means it is us soccers plan to win the the world cup in 2010)
    i see 18 teams in 2 confrences(east/west) with 2 divisions(north/south)
    the 18 teams will be:

    East
    South: Columbus Crew
    Miami Fusion(the mls clevend browns)
    Atlanta Firebirds
    DC United

    North:NY Emperors
    NJ Metrostars
    NE Revs
    Philadelphia Atoms
    Toronto Lynx

    West
South: SD Misson(formerly the SJ Earthquakes)
    LA Galaxy
    Dallas Burn
    Houston Outlaws

    North:Oklahoma Roughnecks
    Seattle Sounders
    Chicago Fire
    Colorado Rapids
    KC Wizards

The playoff format could be this:
8 teams in the playoffs with top 2 in divisions making it. the teams would play teams in their confrence until mls cup. the seris would be 2 games ine home one away with the team with the most goals in the 2 games would advance. that would make it easier for tv with both games being gaurenteed. MLS cup would still be in a neutral site.
The All-Star Game would be East-West
The average salary will be 600K-1Mil
the salary cap will be 14 million dollars
at least 16 teams will have an SSS
there will be free agents and trades
teams will no longer be owened by mls
there will be a 40 game season
Each team will have a local TV deal
there will be 2-3 natl broadcast games a week
We Will Rival NHL and Nascar as the country's 5'th major sports league

This my friend is a huge dream. I actually like it and hope for it, but without the divisions. No playoff format, we just play the league and determine the true champion from whoever finishes top. And what about the rochester Rhinos man?

First off, why would you have a 40 game season? Why not a 34 game season where you play each team twice? That would make more sense.

Yes, I know this is MLS, so "sense" gets checked at the door, but humor me.

And can we please come up with a better name for Philly than the Atoms? Please.

Lastly, I second the motion to include Rochester. Dump the canucks.

Is there a dumber name than the Toronto Lynx? Here's a third vote for the Rhinos, too. now THAT'S a name.

    Ice Cube and Chris Tucker.

And Snoop gave up the chronic... he didn't want to set a bad example for his kids...

setting one for every white teenager in the '90s was ok though.

Nice sentiments, I suppose, but also totally dreaming. Perhaps this happens by 2020 if we've won the WC by then, but this is nowhere near to being 7 years away.

Also, Fifa has regulations about teams not playing outside of their nations, I belive, so Toronto is not an option anyway. There might be exceptions to that rule.

My vision is of MLS in 2012 with 16 teams and 14 SSS. They will play a 36 match season, play everybody at least twice and then have two matchups where teams play each other four times in a season like DC vs. Metros or Fire vs. Burn for rivalry purposes.

Ok, here's may take on MLS 2010. 16 teams in a single table. All the same 10 teams we have remain. MLS and the USL enhance their relationship with each other. "Expansion" teams are Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Portland Timbers, Rochester Rhinos, Seattle Sounders, Charleston Battery and the Milwaukee Rampage. No relegation. Teams will have better working relationships with the second and third division teams in terms of loaned players.

No Rochester?,No Detroit?, No St. Louis? 40 games!, does that include other touranments? And since when did Nascar become the nations 5th sport, its not a sport, driving around in a circle for 500 miles is not a sport. MLS will surpass NHL and become the third sport in the US (MLB will close down shop in 2006, perfect timing for the US Nats to win the World Cup)

Combining my thoughts and the thoughts of others, here's my adaptation...

    North:
    D.C.
    Metrostars
    New England
    Philadelphia
    Rochester

    West
    San Jose
    LA
    San Diego
    Portland
    Seattle

    South
    Dallas
    Oklahoma
    Atlanta
    Charlotte
    KC

    Central:
    Milwaukee
    Chicago
    Colorado
    St. Louis
    Columbus

Milwaukee, Rochester, Seattle are logical successful A-League cities. Charlotte's a lock...Atlanta I question...fan support in that town can be so hit or miss. I still don't see the need for 2 teams in New York at this point.

NO Fing CANADIAN TEAMS IN MLS! This is America's league, this is soccer, each country (most of them) have their own league, that doesn't mean we have Canadian cities in our league like NHL and MLB.

Here's my take on 2010 (it may sound cracked out but go with it)....
-NO Canadian teams in MLS or A-League or anything.
-A-League will be to the point MLS is now.
    -16 team, straight table.
-Supporters Shield is awarded to the winner of the whole table (it still isn't as important as the MLS Cup or U.S. Open Cup)
-Top 8, or 4 I guess, teams go to playoffs best of 3 series (or you could do home and home with aggregate [sp?] scoring) NO TIES.
-Bottom 3 get RELEGATED to the A-League (you can't get relegated from the A-League to PDL or w/e) and the top 3 teams from the A-League replace them.
-Every team (or most of them) has their own Soccer Specific stadium.
-MLS does the T.V. thing NFL does with FOX and CBS, except MLS does it with NBC (or FOX, whoever doesn't have NFL) on Saturdays. On Wednesday games, ESPN or ESPN 2 showes it.
-MLS is the 3rd best sport in the land (behind NFL and NBA).
-U.S. Open cup is done in a better format (same single game knockout, just a few tweaks) and is much more prestigious (sp?) than it is now.

I think thats it, call it crazy, but thats my dream.

I like these rosy predictions, so in the same vein, here's mine.

    North:
    NY Cosmos
    NE Revolution
    PHI Union
    TB Mutiny

    South:
    DC United
    Gotham Metrostars
    CLB Crew
    ATL Arsenal

    Central:
    CHI Fire
    DAL Burn
    KC Wizards
    DT Dynamo

    West:
    SJ eQuakes
    LA Galaxy
    CO Rapids
    SEA Sounders

With owners for every team, AEG owning only the Rapids and Galaxy, and Hunt owning only the Wizards. All other teams are owned by separate owners. All teams own stadia or have good revenue-sharing leases. Attendance averages 25K a game (including special events and doubleheaders), MLS becomes known for its July 4th and May 5th (Cinco de Mayo) festivities much like the NFL has for its Thanksgiving games.

Steinbrenner builds Legends Field spring training facility for his Yankees in Tampa and buys into MLS as his son operates the resurrected Mutiny. Then NYC is awarded the 2012 Olympics and Steinbrenner uses that to leverage getting a Queens Olympic Stadium for the resurrected (NASL) NY Cosmos and Eddie DeBartolo buys the Mutiny from him so Steinbrenner can own the Cosmos. The Quakes move closer into the Bay Area and their attendance skyrockets.

Stadiums are at sold out a lot, and the NEILSEN Ratings skyrocket. All of a suddent the networks are in a bidding war to show Soccer Saturday, generating decent revenues for MLS. Sportscenter regularly shows the highlights. MLS teams continue to do well in international competitions including upsetting a few big European clubs.

Aw heck, I'll be happy if they're finally breaking even financially. But if attendance continues to rise, eventually the TV exposure will come, and the sport will be just fine.

NHL, but you can drop off NBA & MLB and replace it with billiards and log rolling.

Single table is the way to go. Top 8 make a home and away playoffs. MLS cup is gone with the home and away finals... The teams are as follows:

    NE Revs
    NY Cosmos
    Roch Rhinos
    Columbus crew
    DC United
    Philly Atoms
    Charleston Battery
    Miami Fusion
    Colorado Rapids
    KC Wizards
    Dallas Burn
    Houston Hitmen
    LA Galaxy
    Portland Timber
    Seatle Sounders
    San Jose Quakes
    Chicago Fire
    Milwaukee Rampage

Each teams play once at home and once away. Total of 34 games. League starts play in March and ends in November. 8 month regular season. 4 weeknight games... on Wednesday or Thursday.

Is single table really the way to go? In other countries, with less distance to cover, it makes sense. However, in a county as large as ours, wouldn't it be better to divide a little bit to build up regional rivalries? I mean, it would be cool for Chicago to play Milwaukee more than twice, or Columbus (their current closest rival), or Dallas (Brimstone Cup ramifications).

Wouldn't DC fans want to play the Metros more than Seattle?
