At the start of the season I think I guessed that by the Game 15 and the World Cup Break RSL would have have about the same number of points as games played. I was happily way off in my estimation of the quality of this club and their acquisitional abilities. Nicely done Kurt. On a side note I ran into Kurt at a practice a week or two ago and he seems like a pretty level headed guy. I asked him what is the question he gets tired of the most and it was not what I expected. He hates guessing the scores for games. He also took the kudos for his picks working out so well in a rather humble stride and said sometimes they work out and sometimes they don't but these are some good guys that deserve all the credit. RSL heads up to Jamesville to play the Loons who are having a decent season so far. They have cooled off a bit with 2 losses and a draw in their last three games after a nice run with 5 wins a draw and a loss after getting smoked 6-0 in Vancouver. They also had a run to the round of 16 in the US Open Cup that just came to an end. The game is at a weird time of 2:30pm. I expect the best starting 11 that is available to get the call. We shall see if Luna has any lingering "muscle tightness" that might preclude him from playing. Cabral Yedlin Glad Engel Gozo Sanabria Guilavogui Spierings Caliskan Luna Solans Solans is the starter. Another player that took advantage of the opportunity and did not let go. Should be a fun game. Maybe a different feel as teams break for the WC pause.
I'll be watching to see what players from both teams are already looking to the WC break. We'll need to wait until Saturday after the game, but I'm looking forward to the discussion on the number of transfers in and out we'll see in this window. There's never been a window like this. It's earlier, longer and there are more games to be played. Plus there won't be much of a chance to add big pieces before the sprint season (at least from outside the league). Sorry, I've been thinking about this a lot. Back the game. 3-1 RSL win. I'm not sure they are a top ~5 ish team in the league, but they are better than MIN, even on the road. We'll have to get by with the 10 Monarchs games between this and the next RSL league game.
I'll put the win-draw-loss probability at a statistically uniform 50-50-50 for this one. I'm 150% certain that no outcome would surprise me.
This game should be a marker for us. A tie would be completely acceptable, but a win really sets us as a top 5 team in the West. You’ve got Tier 1: San Jose (even with Tsakiris out) Vancouver SeattleTier 2: RSL LAFC Dallas Houston Minnesota LAFC clearly can be in Tier 1 if healthy and MDS doesn’t burn out his players. CCC and no rotation took its toll. RSL is kinda fuzzy between the 2 tiers at the moment. TBD. Losing some key players would put this at risk. A win @ MN would definitely set us apart from tier 2. It is simply crazy that there are 8 solid teams in the West, and San Diego, Galaxy and Colorado are fighting for 9th!
Crazy season so far. I would have to agree. A big win before the WC break would really be a nice send off and set up for the second half of the season. Add in a post WC big window signing and who knows what could happen. knock on wood
Minnesota has been a thorn. Last season Pablo said that when we play them we dominate possession…to no avail. We don’t finishes and they hit us on transition. We are still vulnerable on transition. I think the big change is that we can find the net this season. Per Google the Loons are a top set-piece side in MLS. This is where I think we will lose this match.
Quibble: I don’t think San Jose are built to last much longer after the World Cup break. Even Bruce agrees with that. He believe they’ll be a competitive playoff team, but tier 1 to me is a legitimate 1 seed contender, if not ss contender. Seattle, Vancouver, and LAFC fit that bill. I think LAFC sacrificed the first half of the season enough to still be in striking distance we are a top end of tier 2. Dallas toyed with us. We beat up Houston. Minnesota and crapids will likely be another split series. That’s where we’re at. Not to mention the early San Diego game has proven to be a good barometer
We're fun to watch, but we haven't performed great against the best teams. I agree with fanboy: show me we can secure a draw or win away against a decent team this weekend, and I might even drop the "pretty" and call us good.
I’m largely in agreement. San Jose is not deep. However, they are still at the top at the moment. They won 9/10 to start the season, but then have tied two and lost the last 2. Yet those 4 games have been against other top teams aside from @ TFC. The two loses were exciting games against Seattle (has beat SJE twice now) and Dallas (Sarver with the beer chug celebration in stoppage).
I will be in Washington, DC for this one, at an alumni event from 5 pm on. So root enough for me, too, if you would.
If you are not out and about tomorrow come down to the Break in Murray and watch the game with us. You could win a new RSL kit. For reals Come to the Break in Murray for our watch party this Saturday! Luna didn’t make the trip Is this muscle injury worse than mentioned before and possibly why he’s not in the rumored us World Cup rosters?
Solans Hez Gozo Sanabria caliskan Spierings Booth Engel Glad Yedlin Rafa bench: kerkvilet, Junqua, Quinton, Arias, Dillon, Marczuk, Riquelme, Olatunji, Lineker Rodrigues (who tf is that?)
Totally sucks for Luna, but if it was injury related I think that would be somewhat better for him. Also like seeing Arias on the bench.
