It's Official! Congratulations to MLS academy product, Matt Miazga, for his new contract with Chelsea. http://www.chelseafc.com/news/lates...pleted.html?extcmp=SOCIA_FB_ENG_NEWS_TRANSFER
how do you kids think Jack Mac will look with Portland? he could be the poacher beneficiary of the MLS champs. i think hes lined up for a good season with them. If we are throwing "bold predictions" up early this year, id say Jack notches up at least 10 with Portland this year.
Doesn't really fit anywhere in their lineup if they're keeping with a 4-3-3. Poachers are only really viable in a 2-forward system, and Portland doesn't really play that. I think Jack will mostly just come off the bench unfortunately.
Article on Powers comin back to the Rapids after an unlucky trial. I got him pegged for a big year, have always liked his game since college. Potential top 5 CM in mls he is, sounds like he'll finally play his preferred CM role http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/...lon-powers-buying-changes-colorado-rapids-are
it does seem like US kids get an unnatural run of luck when getting trials in other countries. Omar Gonzalez busted himself before a possible Nuremburg move too.
Gonzo was actually already on loan there when he was hurt. That's not to say it wasn't unlucky, of course.
Yes, very weird and unlucky . . collision with Timmy Chandler, of all people. http://www.socceramerica.com/article/45183/omar-gonzalez-suffers-acl-tear-upon-german-loan.html Needless to say, the loan was terminated shortly after this occurred.
I was impressed with Porter last season (in his limited minutes)... to bad about the injury, but he seemed to use his time wisely. http://www.lifeinquebec.com/montrea...-surprises-speaking-french-one-of-them-11481/ Maybe he and Drogba will build some chemistry, that is if Porter can get some playing time.
Chicago has Shipped Harry to Montreal for, yes, Allocation money . . . Stupid is as Stupid does . . .
It looked like Harry was finally going to be put back in the center and in position to succeed after being split wide last season to make up for their lack of talent overall. A lot of young Americans are being marginalized in MLS due to the allocation and DP rules recently instituted. But it wouldn't surprise me if Hauptman just pockets the cash given his history. He picked up allocation money at the draft and it hasn't really been used yet either. They were thin before this move. Don't know how he fits in to Montreal's plans, but at least he's moving to a decently run organization, from the worst in the league. Hauptman seems like the MLS Donald Sterling, without the racism (presumably). Never goes to the playoffs, cheap, absentee landlord, wasting a big market.
Meh, I think we should wait to see what they do with the TAM before judging this. I feel like Shipp is fairly overrated by a lot of people anyway.
can we just swap San Antonio and Chicago from leagues and call it square??? .........tempted to say the same about San Jose and Sacramento :/
I think two things are true here. 1) Shipp is overrated. 2) Chi is incompetent and even if Shipp is overrated, still one of their better players on a cheap salary.
Shipp may be over-rated, but have you seen the current state of the Chicago midfield? There's nothing there............................. Fan favorite, homegrown American that happened to be fairly cheap. Purging him for allocation money doesn't really make much sense to me. However, let's see what they do with the allocation money. And it should be noted that some press folks say part of the reason for Shipps dismissal is that Paunovic is really high on American U20 Collin Fernandez. We'll see...... It does seem like there are 3 teams in MLS that are in complete rebuild mode. The rosters of Philly, Colorado, and Chicago are fairly shocking compared to the elite teams in the league. Triva question: Who was the last Chicago Fire field player to be capped by the USMNT? [Obviously, we're not counting Brandon Vincent.]
I believe that would be Logan Pause, way back in 2009-10. Of course Sean Johnson has been capped since then. Magic Mike McGee was called into camp during his MVP season, but got food poisoning and did not play.
Was Larentowicz capped? I remember he was called into a couple of Klinsmann's early camps. Off-hand, that's all I've got.
Hence why I said, Chicago is incompetent. Whether Shipp is overrated as it relates to the NT, which he clearly is, how he relates to the general atrocious quality in Chicago's squad is an entirely different topic and he's one, well was one, of their top players. Add that he's a HG on a relatively cheap contract even for MLS and I find the whole ordeal embarrassing. Actually a good move for Shipp to get out of that train wreck of a franchise. If you don't put much value in your top American HG on a cheap contract when you frankly, suck, then what the hell is the intention?
