Is anyone going to do a MLS fantasy game like we did with EPL?... Dunno is yahoo or sportsline will host a game, but if anyone is interested in getting a game together let me know, I'd be interested in playing if we have enough BS posters who are interested...

Yahoo's contest is a little cumbersome for my tastes, quite a number of BS posters usually get involved with http://www.mfls.com/

It is not as fluid as premierleague.com (cyki) but it is a good solid alternative.

Jay and I are already talking about creating a second account, name (perhaps using our wife's or our dog's names) and have a private MFLS league where we hold the draft just like we did at premiershipsoccer.com. Then we just use their system and impose our internal competitions on top of that. But, in this league, no player can be on two teams.

These draft and player limited teams would not be participants in the overall MFLS prize competitions. We'd still enter our main team in those competitions.

For our MFLS Draft League, it looks like the following players have already reserved teams:

    Hal
    DrJones24
    kopiteinkc
    Captain Splarg
    Darr

Do you think we should just take one more and go with a 6 team league, or try to stretch our rosters for the added competition of 8 teams? I'm worried that we would each be fielding multiple "bench players" every game in that case, but if we are all in the same boat, it might be a fun extra challenge. The free agent pool would be next to useless though. The more I think about it, the more I think a 6 team league is probably the way to go. MFLS doesn't have the auto sub rule like CYKI, so it'll be even tougher already.

So we need one more manager, basically.

Well MFLS is up and the new rules are explained on their site. One possible problem I noticed is that they say they will automatically combine small division (private or public) once the season starts, so that all divisions will be of around 20 teams. That would pretty much make our "Draft Division" kind of confusing to look at.

I'll email them and see if they can make an exception, explaining why we'd want to keep it to 6 teams. Otherwise, we could perhaps set up a site just for the League Standings.

Oh, and we definitely need to keep it to 6 teams. Rosters this year are 18 players! That's 108 roster spots in a 6 team league, while there's only 110 starting roster spots in all of MLS. When you figure in all the platoon positions on most teams (20%?), it's going to be very interesting to keep our lineups filled with active players. This is doubly important due to the penalties for non-active players.

I'd be glad to host such a site, web space is no problem.

    Should we shoot for 2?

If there is enough interest, we could shoot for two private 6-team draft divisions.

Anyone that starts needs to commit to staying active and finishing. It's a bummer for anyone to put their time in this when 1-2 teams drop out. For a draft league it's hard to have a new manager come in.

if you are interested in a mls head2head league I was talking to my friend and we are working with a web designer/programmer to get a league together. If you remember the FLMLS it's set up sort of like that. I know Hal had played the last couple years in that league. If you or anyone you know is interested send me an email at worldfantasyfootie@yahoo.com

    Thanks,

Hal just pointed out to me that Deadlystrike is running a drafted MLS game, and they've expanded the rules from the EPL game. Significantly, they've allowed for the option of each team drafting 15 players, and having position limitations on starting lineups. That said, I suggest that instead of using MFLS' database to keep track of our points, we use Deadlystrike's.

    PROS:
    1) Use Deadlystrike draft interface
    2) No need for mirror site
    3) No salaries, so trades will be easier
    4) No transfer limits, also helping trades
    5) No need to notify everyone whenever you make a free agent pickup...the pool will automatically be updated
    6) No penalties for non-appearances--I think this would have killed us with our thin benches using MFLS' rules
    7) No need to sneak around MFLS' rule about each player having only one team (so we can each also have our regular MFLS squads)

    CONS?
People maybe more familiar with MFLS scoring?
(that's all I can think of...)

    So who's in?
    1) Clanblue
    2) Hal
    3) DrJones24
    4) Splarg
    5) Kopiteinkc
    6) Darr

    Everyone cool with that?

    Couple thoughts:

    1) I see Hal has already set up a Public league called Very Small Rocks. But he made it for 10 men squads (8 active per game). How would that work with player limitations? I think I prefer 15 men teams with 11 starters. Can you switch it Hal, or do we need to create a new league?

    2) I just had flashbacks to the live draft being really bad and dragged out. But that was the email/chat one for CYKI, wasn't it? The Deadlystrike one actually ran pretty smoothly, now that I think of it. (Well, other than when it took my #1 pick and gave me Darius Vassell when I was about to select Thierry Henry...that wasn't exactly "awesome")

    3) So we'll need to set a draft time at some point. I'll nominate weekend mornings as good times: say 8am on a Sat or Sunday in March? I think I remember there only being a 3 min window per pick, so it probably wouldn't take too long.

I would be in favor for that over MFLS... Weekend mornings would probably work for me... I'd also be available late night...

    ex CYKI Managers Division

I couldn't figure out how to edit the Very Small Rocks Division I created to make it a 15 member squad with position limits of a maximum of 1 goalkeeper, 4 defenders, 5 midfielders, and 3 forwards. Therefore, I created a Private Division entitled: ex CYKI Managers

    Password is cyki (lower case)

I only made it a 6 person division and it should only be joined by the six managers who've expressed an interest earlier in this thread. At some point in time, if all 6 don't join, we can invite a replacement.

As far as the promotion for the other MLS Fantasy Soccer League in the immediately preceding advertisement in our thread, a) I have joined in the Public "Black and Red" division; b) My concern is that this is related to The Sporting News who dropped their EPL Fantasy Soccer Game half way through the EPL season. I would like to ensure they intend to stay the course before I become an active manager in their game.

Has anyone ever done the MLSnet.com fantasy game yet? Or is this there first year? At least we'd know for sure that it would last the full season... :p

They had a partnership game with The Sporting News last year, and I'm guessing this might be the same one. IIR, they allowed a very limited # of moves, but you could literally BUY extra moves by paying a fee with a credit card per move. I didn't play it, but I think Hal noted above that the game actually folded halfway. Not sure if that's true or not. Anyway, we're up to 4 teams in the "ex CYKI Managers" league on Deadlystrike.com, with just Clanblue and Splarg needing to register.

Are there Other divisions on deadly strike? I am very interested in doing a draft style fantasy game. I have played both mfls and yahoo in the past. I usually play oin the Fire Season Ticket Holders division. Which is a strong division, but it seems that the organizer of it has had to fold it do to RL priorities. Please let me know if their are public divisions that draft as well.
