Big rumors here in Canada about Mls having a team in Toronto by 2007
I got to tell u, living in Toronto this makes me very excited, but.
Is Fifa going to allow this? because if i recall, Rangers and Celtics from Scotland have been trying to joing England PL for quite sometimes and fifa hasn't agreed to it.
    any thoughts on this?

Scotland has a lot of history, with its Premier League and lower divisions, which FIFA might agree deserves protecting. Frankly, neither Canada not the US can claim as much, and FIFA might consider anything that encourages the development of professional soccer in North America as desirable.

FIFA might bend over for this.

I think FIFA would allow it, the canadian team would probably have to forfit any rights to international competition through canadian cups etc though. In England they have a couple of Welsh teams in the league systems and that's the way it works there at least.

There is precedent for Canadian teams to play in an American league. Plus if both Canada and the US agree to it, no harm no foul.

In Scotland, the SPL does not want Rangers and Celtic to leave, otherwise they fold. Thus FIFA doesn't want that to happen. Canada has no true D1 league of their own so it wouldn;t be a case of teams jumping ship to another league.

I don't think there's any realistic chance D1 soccer teams can exist in Canada otherwise, simply due to geography.

Why? Canada probably can't support a top-division league on its own, yet there are two or three markets (Toronto, maybe Montreal?) which could support an MLS team.

Even worse..... they want to legalize pot...... ;)
That and they want private citizens to live their own lives without silly restrictions based on "religion" and "morals".... :)

Hell, Canada is more American than America is ! :D

They could create a Liechtenstein situation. Their teams have a guest status in our league system and they get one Uefa Cup spot through their own, separate FA Cup...

(That's how FC Vaduz qualifies every year)

OK I respect your right to the opinion but can you give us some details on why you think so?

    Just curious

    Thanks

Yeah great if you like it so much up there why dont you move and pay 50% of every dollar you to make toward taxes. See how great it is then.

I like how bent out of shape some people get when Americans criticize the state of our country.

I doubt FIFA will have much objection if you can prove that Canada doesn't have 10 markets that can support Div. 1 teams.

Which is a case a blind retarded monkey could successfully make.

Now, whether it's a good idea for MLS is a different question.

Canada is a joke, the MLS will never expand there. Start your own league if you ever want to qualify for the World Cup.

That would be a good idead to combine mls with canada because i live in vancouver so i would be happy if they actually make anotehr team rather thatn the whitecaps that they have right now.

valid criticism if it means American soccer players would have to pay such taxes on their MLS salary. or do you propose a Canadian MLS team with Americans limited as international players. why would Americans support that?

I'm sick of the Canuckleheads always trying to get in on MLS. So this is it, your last chance, take it or leave it; sure we'll let you in as long as you forfeit your right to field a national team.

    Didn't think so.
