MLS Donkey of the Year Award goes to the player/coach/referee who diplays bonehead and stupidity acts on the field as his greatest attributes to the game of soccer. I was initially going to do a poll, but decided on you, the wonderful and beautiful people(except Mike Seagroves ) on BS, to write in your nomination for the MLS Donkey of the year Award. Sooooooooooo........... My nomination goes to Tony Meola: For his impersonation of Andrew Dice Clay on the pitch. He curses the living daylights at the referees and linesman regardless that his team won. plus receiving his 1st MLS red card at Naperville against the Fire in which they were trashed. Congrats Tony.
Maybe we should take nominations, then hold a poll. Here's a few: Noel Kenny Tony Meola Diego Serna Ian Bishop (in the "legends" category) RFK Security NJSEA That Nigerian guy Colorado signed then cut before the season.
These are my three as well. Surprised no one has mentioned Mathis yet. Not that I would ever vote for him, but this is generally when the haters start chiming in.
OK. So far we have: Noel Kenny (2 nominations) Tony Meola (2 nominations) Diego Serna (1 nomination) Ian Bishop (2 nominations) RFK Security (1 nomination) NJSEA (1 nomination) Daniel Amokachi (2 nominations) Clint Mathis (1 nomination) I'll count out the nominations at the end of the MLS semi-finals. Then I'll post a poll to detemine the winner. Keep it coming.
No one else has that option. I nominate Zambrano for generally everything and more specifically for not having Mathis on the players listed who could be substituted and therefore could not enter his first game back from the WC. I nominate as a close second Steve Jolley for "guaranteeing" (ha!) that the Metros would win the Cup this year. I also nominate as a close third the Fire/Stoichkov/MLS or whoever for the shirt he wore in San Jose with a little 9 written on it like he was a 6 year old playing in the park.
Steve should stop calling Miss Cleo. Stoichkov's number is 8, not 9. So far we have: Noel Kenny (4 nominations) Tony Meola (3 nominations) Ian Bishop (2 nominations) Daniel Amokachi (2 nominations) Diego Serna (1 nomination) RFK Security (1 nomination) NJSEA (1 nomination) Clint Mathis (1 nomination) Landon Donovan (1 nomination) Jeff Agoos (1 nomination) Roy Lassiter (1 nomination) Octavio Zambrano (1 nomination) Steve Jolley (1 nomination) Hristo Stoichkov (1 nomination)
Octavio "OZ" Zambrano, for his late game substitutions (lets go with no fwds with 20 mins left), his stratertegy (no right mid???), his outspoken suport of his players, and his admittance of his own culpability for the tragedy that was this season. I think Im going to cry now. Oh yeah, almost forgot-His salute to Clint Mathis on his first game back from the World Cup-leaving him off the roster.
1) OZ (for the aforementioned reasons) 2) Damarcus Beasley (for urinating in front of the cameras during the GER-USA game) 3) Roger Itaya (for falling asleep on the sideline instead of keeping up with offside players) If I only can pick one, make it #1.
Octavio Zambrano and Nick. I think they're considered as one, because both have the same train of thought. NJSEA comes at second for messin' up the Swamp for the Metros, and forcing them to play somewhere else for the playoffs.
