I read on ESPN's website that Ruiz was selected the game's MVP. Well, sure he scored the winner, but only after about 4 other good chances were given to him. I've seen Ruiz play better (like against DCU.) But I think Cobi was the engine today that kept LA in the match, and generated most of their good goal-scoring opportunities. He should have had Franchino ejected after beating him twice(!) for what would have been goal scoring opportuinities. Ruiz should have done better with several earlier setups by Jones. Cobi gets a full-force kick in the quad, and stays in for the rest of the game and both overtimes, even though he was limping after the game. That was an MVP performance.

Now, I agree that Ruiz was the season-long MVP. He is a goal scoring machine, but I thought Cobi was the best man today.

Any thoughts? Who was your MLS Cup MVP?

In any case, final game/series MVP awards hardly ever go to the most deserving person, regardless of the sport.

Jones was outstanding. Ruiz made a good run, was onside, and placed his shot excellently. Who won MVP last year? Was it DeRosario?

Safe bet that Cobi could care less about not being MVP.

    I'll say Tyrone Marhsall.

He came up huge multiple times on defense, with his usual daring slide takles. He marked Harris out of the game totaly. He made a ton of runs, that last of which won the game for the G's. He distributed the ball out of the back better then anyone else, and he played his heart out.

I'm lying, it was Cobi. Not Ruiz, however Ruiz was the only player who was going to score in that game, so I have to thank him for not making me suffer through pks.

Even though the Revs lost, I would have said Kante. He was magnificent in the middle today.

    Agreed, all over the place.

    How is MVP decided?

I think if Cobi was involved with the goal (scorer, 1st assist, 2nd assist) he would have been Game MVP. But he wasn't.

So they gave it to the goal scorer (like they did last year).

But really...I don't think players are aiming to win a glass vase...do you?????

    Sweet game

I would also say Marshall, he assisted on the goal, and he actually started the whole play by blocking a shot with his face, he then collected the ball, passed it to Albright then made a run up the right side, got the ball back from Albright on the run and made a perfect pass to Ruiz. Not to mention his awesome defense all day.

    Marshall Final MVP

I'd have to give Rusty Pierce the MVP.

I think I have to disagree on this one, I thought Kante wasn't that great of a defender, it was my first opportunity to really see him play, and I thought he was less then they hype indicated, poor touch, adequate positioning, clumsy clearances.

And Franchino was out of control today, with that being said, I'd love to have his grit and fight on Metro.

No contest, in my view: Cobi.

    Jones is MVP

Cobi ran his but off yesterday. You could tell he really wanted that win, and he played like it for 113 minutes. It's predictable that Ruiz gets the award for the goal, but Cobi was the reason for the victory.
