everyone and their mother already knows about this deal and she’s just now “confirming” it, still not as bad as Jacob Myers but man
I don’t follow her reporting so I can’t say if she’s on top of things or not. But in this specific instance I Respectfully Disagree. There are two bits of nuance to consider: 1. Having a bunch of internet posters “report” something is not the same as knowing it for a fact. It’s just not. All of us who pass some time on message boards need to remember this. 2. The important line is that a deal is not yet in place. She is, in fact, refuting a lot of the self-appointed “experts" who are treating this as a done deal. Chickens before they hatch and all of that.
People don't understand in this day and age that reporters who work at newspapers actually have to publish info based on verifiable facts etc, at least when not trying to break new stories that are currently developing where all the facts are not known by anyone. A freaking MLS trade talked about by clowns on social media but not confirmed does not qualify, and clowns on Big Soccer who have joined in the last 3-5 years need not get their knickers in a twist about said reporting,
Just because only 5 of our players are All-Stars does not mean all of our 11 need to be effing All-Stars, are you that truly goddamned delusional? We won MLS Cup last season with most of these same players. Who are you trying to beat? Grandpas at the end of the season in South Floriduh?
The first post in the thread about the deal was THE SAME DAY YOU MADE THIS EFFING POST WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU?
I may have been a bit hyperbolic with that specific instance, but my point still stands. not sure if I would call Tom Bogert a clown, he does get a majority of the scoops and gets them right 99% of the time. You gotta ask, who are his sources if he can confirm info before the beat writer for the Crew can. I get it, it’s not a desirable gig for her but it seems a bit lackadaisical to constantly get beaten by all these other people to the punch. Has she broken any transfer news? Has she done any investigative reporting or journalism regarding a transfer? Or has she just said “yep I can confirm this news is true” hours, if not days after the news has already been broken? It was first reported by a source that an offer was made for Hinestroza on July 15, it was then reported by Tom Bogert on the 17th about the deal. One day later on the 18th, the beat writer for the COLUMBUS CREW finally “confirmed” the report. What are the odds she had any idea it was going on before someone brought it to her attention? I may have overreacted a bit on the Andrés Herrera news, but she was 11 hours late on getting any type of info out there. Anything. Even a “I am working to confirm reports of a transfer for so-and-so. Story to come soon”. How hard is it to verify your facts when she should theoretically be around the team/FO every day? It’s not like she doesn’t have a direct source within the Crew, and she even has someone in the newspaper that can help her out. Obviously these other people breaking the news first have been in the game longer than her, but this is literally the team that she covers for a living. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter who got the info out first, as long as it is correct, but I just wish the writers for the crew (any of them) would break news once in a while before any one else.
Because the goal should be to improve the overall quality of the roster. If Matan leaves and we sign a new player for a role where we already have a presumed starter (Farsi), that improves the quality of the roster how, exactly? And I don’t think having 25% of our senior roster spots vacant is a good thing.
Isn’t Chambost the Matan replacement? I also don’t see a spot for Matan in the starting lineup with Rossi, Cucho, and Ramirez. Matan in the middle as Nagbe’s replacement was a massive fail last weekend.
Chambost as Matan replacement? I mean, maybe. But a Ligue 2 player who scored 6 goals last year (the high water mark in his career) doesn’t strike me as someone who’s guaranteed to walk onto this roster and start, much less improve the roster. Matan at CM was, honestly, just bizarre to see. He was always intended to be a playmaking/attacking midfielder. So that’s what I assume you’re referencing in saying ‘Matan replacement.’ What we’ve seen the past two games is a team without options when we’re tied or being late. Matan, Hinestroza and JRR were about all we had on the bench. Now two of them are gone or rumored to be leaving. I can’t seriously see Chambost as a player who’ll change that situation. Certainly, Herrera wouldn’t.
Except everyone knows it isn’t final so I don’t see anyone adding him to the roster more or less assuming how he fits with this roster. When the Crew announce something we know it’s official, she isn’t bringing anything to the table on this matter.
Matan has been here since 2021, and he has a total of 4 goals in all comps for the Crew. Chambost’s 6 goals in a single season sounds absolutely spectacular in comparison.
Because there is no FBref page for him, I watched the highlights of the RB. Seems like a more defensive Gressel with decent crossing and footwork. He's gonna need some work to fit in. Matan and Nagbe work well together at CM. Our midfield without Nagbe doesn't work. Chambost isn't the same type of player as Matan. FBref compared him to Meza of Monterrey. Might also be a little like Ryan Gauld.
Agreed. Matan has been a disappointment, even though his form improved under Nancy and his assist count last year was pretty damned good. But that's not the point. The point is to get someone much better than Matan on the roster who can do things Matan couldn't. We paid a $3M fee for a U-22 player who, I assumed, was intended to do that. That experiment was a failure. Is Chambost's resume better than Hinestroza's in that regard? Impossible to say, I suppose, though they're very different types of players, as far as I can tell. Admittedly, then, my opinion here is pretty superficial. But what I see is a player who's spent the large majority of his career in a league that's a step down from MLS, and whose stats in that league are, well, pretty modest. He scores some goals and gets some assists, but not that many of each. I don't understand why he could be expected to perform even better in a better league. I'm not saying he's a bad signing. I'm happy to have him on the roster. He's comparatively cheap and Nancy has a decent track record of having young-ish players bloom under his leadership. What I'm saying is that nothing I've seen happen or that's been rumored to maybe be happening this summer window looks or feels anything remotely like a team loading up for a championship run. Especially a team that just transferred out one of its star players.
Jones was a starter so he is good depth and i think he has enough speed to play CB. His comments about being a 6 sounded like he was implying he is not a CB and didn’t want to be one. But if he wants to play more he better consider because he is way down the list at CM. Medranda at the time was a veteran depth piece at LB he was never going to be more than a stop gap back up/3rd string guy
Yes because 6 goals is more than Vampire has ever had in a season. Both attacking playmakers but Chambost is more of a passer and goal scorer and not a guy who tries to move the ball dribbling like Alex. Walk on and start ? Yeah definitely not happening he is a prospect but just a lil older and more experienced than when we signed Mățan who was a young u22 prospect. We needed more scoring off the bench yes and Chambost has to be viewed as capable in that aspect. Just how good he is remains to be seen. I for one hope Măța signs a new cheaper or around the same money contract and stays here. But it sure seems like he is on the way out.
I get that now Just seemed like wing back was the obvious place to look for an upgrade (either side) and we saw what was done with Yeboah.
