Chambost's goals, besides his free kicks, seem like right place right time situation. Has a really good switching ability. Really a different player than we have on the roster. Kinda like Gressel in the midfield.

Morris accomplished everything he could in Columbus. 2 Cups is a hell of a gift to the fans. Good luck to him in Middlesbrough. I’ll be watching them next season.
Wow we’ve had some changes last 2 weeks. It’s hard to keep up!

So we have a DP spot (after buying down Nagbe), a U22 spot, and several other senior roster spots, plus whatever MLS adds in the summer window to help Miami sign more friends for Messi.

I think we need another three players at minimum that are starters or close to starter quality to keep pace with FCC and Miami: a #8 (Morris), a #9 or #10 (JRR/Matan), and a #2/11 (Farsi).

Sorry to see Aidan go. Depends on how big a sell-on we got but 4 mil seems low. He'll be hard to replace for both his defensive work rate and offensive contributions.

I sort of see Chambost as a backup for Nagbe to give him less work and have him fresh at playoff time.

I bet the trade is that we trade Matan for a small amount of GAM since we don’t seem interested in re-signing him, get what we can for him.

I’m hoping for a big signing as an Aiden replacement. Nagbe won’t be around forever either. Dude is a stud, but will hit the inevitable age wall sooner or later. I’m hoping that’s a couple of years off from now.

Dylan Chambost official. 8, 6, 10, + wide according to Tall. International spot. Contract thru '26 with option for '27. Window open July 18.

I thought he was OOC, on a free. Article uses the term acquired, and says undisclosed transfer fee. If this is our DP, I am gonna be disappointed.

    https://www.columbuscrew.com/news/columbus-crew-acquire-dylan-chambost-from-as-saint-etienne

The Morris news puts a damper on things, though. It being Boro, there is a non-zero chance they mess the paperwork up, right?

    Not taking Moreis off yet.

    I. Senior Roster (1-20). 16 (17) of 20.

Counts vs the salary budget of $5,470,000. Max salary budget charge is $683,750. Teams not required to fill spots 19 & 20. A minimum salary budget charge is imputed vs the club for unfilled spots below 18.

These slots may be filled with: Senior Min players ($89,716) which may include: i) Gen Adidas, ii) designated Superdraft eligible players, or iii) Homegrown players who may or may not earn more than Sen Min due to the HG Subsidy. Players in slots 21-24 must make at least $89,716.

    -----------
    29. Open (Hughes loan)
    30. Open

HG subsidy is $125,000 per year in aggregate. Plus $200k of GAM/TAM can be used to sign HGs to their 1st contract.
    -------------

III. International Players (9 of 10)

Each team gets 8, we traded with Seattle for +2.

Hernandez, Moreira, Matan, Farsi, Yeboah, Cheberko, Camacho, Hinestroza, Chambost.

Again, the Amundsen mystery remains. But he firmly is NOT an INT.

New verbiage for 2024, do NOT need a Green Card.

"For a player to be considered a Domestic Player in the applicable season, residency must be established, or the player has to have appeared for an immigrant visa interview by the opening of the Secondary Transfer Window."

    https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/mls-...new-sporting-initiatives-ahead-of-2024-season

And we traded for +2 INT spots with Seattle.

    https://www.columbuscrew.com/news/c...onal-roster-slots-via-trade-with-seattle-soun
    ------------

IV. Green Card Holders/Counts as Domestic (3).

Rossi (Green Card). JRR (International HG Rule). Hagan (USA parent/ passport).

Amundsen does not count as an INT for reasons I do not understand. But he does not have a GC either as far as I know. I could be wrong about that.
    ------------

    V. U22 Initiative Slots (2 of 3)

If a team has an open DP slot, or the 3rd DP mafes under the max TAM buydown level ($1 mil over max budget charge), or is a young DP, a team has 3 U22 slots. Otherwise, they have 1.

    1. Matan
    2. Hinestroza
    3. Open

U22 players count $200k vs the budget if the are aged 22-25. $150k is 21 or younger. U22 players must be on their initial MLS contract unless they are HGs (2nd), and must sign it before turning 22.

Can continue to occupy the slot until the year they turn 25. Salary cannot exceed Max Budget unless it is a HG/Superdraft on 2nd contract, who can earn Max Budget +$200k. Clubs may pay acquisition costs without limit (out of pocket, no GAM/TAM).
    -----------------
    VI. Loaned Out (1)

    1. Keegan Hughes, D, 23, 7/22/00, 6'3", 190, USA, HG, $89,716, $89,716. Thr '24, O in '25/'26.

We developed a player, had him start in two MLS cups that we won, got to a continental final with him, and then sold him for millions. This is all hard to imagine happening at any other time in our club's history and I feel pretty proud about it. It stings to lose Morris, but he did everything we really could have asked for out of him. Hope he crushes it at Boro and we cash in on that sell-on clause too!

I fins it hard to believe he didn't go for more. $4m is a pittance for what he offers. I wouldn't let him go for less than $10m.

I think $10M would be pretty ambitious. The teams that could afford to spend $10 m on a 6/8 style player are going to sign better players than Morris. I think this was a pretty fair value.

The timing does fascinate me a little. I was imagining that a move would happen during or after the Olympics, when Morris would be in the proverbial shop window and could drive his price up a bit with good performances. Its likely that a conversation was had with him after this offer came in though, and Morris said he wanted the move and didnt want to wait for anything else. Bez/Tall mustve run the numbers and seen that even with one or 2 potential man of the match performances at the Olympics, it wasnt worth it to wait and see. And theres also the risk for potential injury ruining everything I suppose.

This really has been a shitty last week and a half. Good for Aidan, though. And looking at it holistically, it’s a great success for the academy. He’s such a young player, that sell-on clause could end up tacking a lot of extra cash onto this initial fee at some point.

If we don’t announce a couple of truly substantial additions in the near future, I’m going to lose it.

It's my understanding that Champost's contract with ASSE, which was through 2024, provided for an additional year if the team got promoted. They would have to waive that option and Im sure theyll want a few Francs to do so. Damned frogs. I'm guessing that's why he had to be "acquired". I doubt if it's very much.

Here's the FBref bars for the past 365 days (Attacking Mid/Winger) for Matan on the left and Chambost on the right. (Does not include Leagues Cup or CCC.) Notably, Chambost only played 28 games last season and only started 16. I found that odd. So he started only half the games for a ligue 2 side.

2 came immediately to mind. Alberth Elis was linked in the winter to New England, that fell through. He was an incredibly dynamic attacker/winger for Houston several years ago. Then he got a bad head injury with his team in France and was in a coma. Just did some googling and looks like he is out of the coma but hasnt played since February. I imagine he could probably be had for pretty cheap! Hope he is recovering well.

The other is Adam Buksa. Big ol lummox of a target forward. Hes been rumored to be headed back for a bit now. Dont think he would fit Nancys system, not a good enough ball player.

Can I lob a turd of a take into the thread? No? Ok here it comes anyway:
Make the call to Gio Reyna. Just a phone call. That talent is worth the phone call to see if hes willing to put his head on straight and start to rehab his club career. All the resources he needs are here in Columbus, he would just need to be willing to take advantage of them.
